The first time they meet, he decides they’re different in far too many ways.
That’s why Gakushuu’s certain it’s a fluke when Nagisa texts him the day after graduation.
“Is there something you want from me?”
“No. I just thought it would be nice to talk.”
He sighs and pinches the bridge of his nose. He’s supposed to be busy preparing for high school. He doesn’t have time for communicating with this… Strange boy.
And even so, the more he tries to get his mind off of him, the harder it becomes. No-one has ever reached out to him in such a peculiar way before. If nothing else, perhaps he can at least use this boy to get dirt on Akabane.
“Fine,” he texts back. “Meet me at the campus if you truly wish to converse. It’s hardly professional to talk over text. No-one should be there, seeing as how school just let out.”
They meet up at the main campus that afternoon and sit underneath the shade of a massive tree. They discuss the end of an era, and he discovers Nagisa has a strange penchant for the philosophical, just the same as he.

The first time he sees a bruised cheek is when he decides they’re not so different after all.
They meet up after high school most days. Akabane joins them sometimes, but to be truthful, Gakushuu prefers it when he doesn’t.
“What happened?” He asks.
“...You’re going to be too smart to lie to, aren’t you?” Nagisa asks with a sheepish grin. In any other situation, Gakushuu would be flattered.
“Indeed,” he says, before frowning. “Your mother?”
Nagisa blinks, bug-eyed. “How did you know?”
“I have my ways,” Gakushuu simply responds. “The woman has gone ballistic on my father at least once or twice.”
Despite himself, he smirks. And Nagisa must catch it, because he shies back nervously.
“Ah. My apologies. I’m not charmed by your abuse.”
“I’d hope not?”
“...It is simply a fond memory for me any time someone gives my father trouble.”
“You don’t like him very much, do you?” Nagisa asks.
“No,” Gakushuu replies. “I don’t think I do.”
Nagisa leans on his shoulder and whispers “That’s okay, I think. If I’m being truthful, I don’t think I like my family much, either.”

The first time he sees him vulnerable, he thinks he’s going to die.
“What’s that?” Nagisa asks, his brow furrowing with concern.
Gakushuu quickly pulls his sleeve back up. Ah. It seems he’d let his guard down and near about dozed off. That won’t do.
“Nothing much,” Gakushuu replies.
“Did you two fight again?”
It’s Gakushuu’s turn to stare at Nagisa with wide eyes. “H-How did you know?”
Nagisa sighs. “I have my ways,” he says. “Is it recent? Do you need a hand?”
Gakushuu hisses in through his teeth. “I don’t need your pity,” he says.
“I’m not interested in giving you my pity,” Nagisa says simply, reaching a hand out. “So how about you let me give you assistance instead? One person who gets it to another.”
And despite himself, Gakushuu takes his hand.
“I’d quite like that.”
Nagisa packs ice and tears bandages with his teeth. He’s quite skilled at this routine. In no time, Gakushuu’s arm is all bundled up.
They sit underneath the massive oak, and stare up at the sky. While Gakushuu wonders just what sort of person has stumbled into his life.
Because while the first time he related to Nagisa was the day he saw him marred with black and blue, he thinks the first time he’s respected Nagisa would have to be this very moment.
And for the first time, he wonders if he could live the rest of his life surrounded by this feeling. If it doesn’t have to hurt anymore.
In due time, Nagisa dozes off on his shoulder. And listening to the boy snore, Gakushuu decides he’d quite like that as well.

I honestly thought he might not have realized he was in love but his reaction in the first part indicates some awareness at the very least... Shunin is the first family he made after they invited him to their world (HAMA Tours) and got him out of his never-ending loop of fortune and misfortune that never let him enjoy any sense of permanence...

I'm so glad you enjoyed the chapter because despite how much I love it, it was a bit of a nightmare for me and my translator friends to wrestle with LOL. I love Nagi but he makes up so many silly things 😭😭

A14 has always been special to me and if you see the discord server you will see me yapping about it all the time. There's just something about seeing Nagi feeling happy, being ALLOWED to be happy, that just resonated with me. And what I enjoy about nagishuu the fact that we see how their relationship develop right from the start all the way to the end of L4mps.
The flower giving scene is the highlight of the story for me but I'm just biased. Nagi has one of the best story arcs in general and I got emotional at several different points, so its not just me being crazy about a ship (well I am but you get it) so I hope you stay tuned!
