Nafirâs âEmptiness of Youâ x StreetArtNews.
In association with StreetArtNews, âEmptiness Of Youâ by Iranian artist Nafir will be released on Thursday, October 22nd at 9AM PT and features 5 stencil portraits over traditional Persian carpets originally from Kashan City, Iran where the highest standards and traditional production of carpets feature the finest craftsmanship.
Nafir is a self-taught Iranian artist born in Tehran whose works are influenced by traditional Iranian art and culture. As he call himself vandal street artist his art focus on social problems of Iran and whole world. Nafir start tagging in 2008 on crowded walls of Iran to fight with censorship political and social problems. He found his moniker in an old school book of Molavi (Rumi) poetry, which literally translates as âscreamâ.
His work often references traditional Iranian art such as eslimi and carpet weaving - combining two things that should not be together: one which is accepted and revered; the other forbidden. In Iran, where Street Art is strictly illegal, Nafir is compelled to paint quickly and make strong statements about social and political problems in his country. Preparing and cutting stencils in his studio, he has mastered the skill of putting up his work in a matter of seconds. When painting abroad and with permission however, his artwork tends to be much more personal and expressive.

âTEAR GASâ
by Nafir
Stencil artist Nafir wears the label âVandal Artistâ like a badge of honorâand good for him. While Stavanger has had its ups and downs, thereâs an interesting disconnect in running into âTear Gasâ in Norway, home of the Nobel Peace Prize, but when you realize what Nafir has risked for his art your perspective quickly changes. PurposeStreetArt reports that back home the Tehran, Iran-based artist has had more than 500 of his pieces painted over, but he is showing no sign of going away and is now âfocused on the consequences of the Syrian war.â Painted in Stavanger in 2015 at Tou Scene art center on Kvitsøygata, for the Nuart Festival, four different versions of âTear Gasâ also became a Sold Out series of limited-edition prints.  @artnafir @nuartfestival @touscene @streetartcitiesâ Â
