Our last Curse of Strahd session was pretty tense - a fight against five hags, all flavored after the different hag types (though not actually as strong as each hag’s default entries, THANKFULLY). It was rough - our warlock died, our wizard was barely being kept conscious and with no spell slots left, our paladin was beat to shit and polymorphed into a fish, and our dragonborn ranger Nabite here... well, Adi beat her unconscious...
See, Adi got the very first turn of the fight. And cast Bless on everyone. Good stuff! And then one of the hags cast Enemies Abound on her. Which is an Int save. And Adi has a negative Int bonus... and that hag made sure to not draw fire from the other party members... and had a high save DC. So Adi spent the entire fight convinced that all the other PCs were also her enemies. And when she attacked she had to randomly roll among all available targets. And Nabite got RNG’d to hell, and Adi managed to actually roll high enough to hit her most of the time... Ended with Nabite coming over and punching Adi in the face repeatedly, which DID prompt new saves, but her chances of breaking it were so low it didn’t end up helping. Eventually Nabite ended with 1 HP and tried to walk away from Adi... well, you HAVE to take opportunity attacks when under Enemies Abound... so Adi downed her with a punch to the back of the head...
The session ended with the end of combat, and Adi, now free from the spell, managed to revivify our warlock (with 1 turn to spare) and heal Nabite but she feels utterly horrible about the whole thing~
THANKFULLY I had replaced EVERY attack spell prepped prior to that combat, so Adi didn’t blast Spirit Guardians or other bullshit all over the party or we’d of wiped for sure lol. And that Bless happened to help the rest of the team a lot (which Adi kept up despite also being on them because, as I rationalized, they were enemies, but they were currently fighting OTHER enemies, so until she was targeted it only benefitted her to keep it up~)
