N7508, delivered in 1989 to American, comes in over the numbers at DFW back in 2014. Feeling a bit nostalgic for the Ol' Mad Dog this evening. This Mad Dog flew its entire life with American Airlines, was withdrawn from use the year after I took this photo and she was scrapped at MCI in 2017. When the MD-80 went into production in 1980, the legacy DC-9 was still in production. In fact, both the MD-80 and the legacy DC-9 were built on a common production line at Long Beach with interspersed line numbers. The MD-80 prototype was line number 909, the second MD-80 was line number 917. The last airline legacy DC-9 was a Series 31 delivered to USAir (line number 1058), but the last two legacy DC-9s on the common production line before it went all MD-80 were two C-9B Skytrain IIs delivered to the US Navy (line numbers 1081 and 1084) that are now used by the Marine Corps. Approximately 44 legacy DC-9s rolled off the Long Beach line after the start of MD-80 production started. After December 1982, only MD-80s were produced. #avgeek #aviation #aircraft #planeporn #DFW #DallasFortWorth #Texas #airport #planespotting #instaplane #McDonnellDouglas #MD80 #American #Airlines #N7508 #instagramaviation #splendid_transport #instaaviation #aviationlovers #aviationphotography #flight #AvGeeksAero #AvgeekSchoolofKnowledge #AvGeekNation (at DFW Airport) https://www.instagram.com/p/Ca8rOIBsuG6/?utm_medium=tumblr
