Heather giggled, smiling gently up to Chandler, the tiny birthday tiara on her head (with a few real diamonds on it courtesy of her dad), glimmering under the florescent lights. “Thank you for remembering, Heather.” she said, smile growing. “Are you still coming over tonight to watch movies with me?” she asked. “Duke said she had to study, but Veronica’s coming.”

Mac felt the warm weight hit her shoulder and turned her head to gaze at her friend, who dozed peacefully on her arm. The strangest thought popped into Mac’s head, making her have to hold back a giggle: ‘Heather looks like an angel.’
Another thought hit then: ‘You could kiss her forehead or her cheek, and she wouldn’t know a thing.’ Quickly, it was banished. She would never do anything to Heather that she bluntly say she wanted done. Too many people had ignored Chandler’s choice in what she wanted, and Mac didn’t want for it to ever happen again.
So, instead, she leaned her head carefully against Chandler’s, allowing her eyes to flutter shut and her mind to slip off into blissful dreams of a queen in crimson holding her close and whispering the sweetest things to her.
(The sudden rush of derealization that came after she woke up was a bit of a moment-ruiner, but Chandler was gracious about the whole thing, having seen it all before with her.)
