Terrarium update: the lizard lives!! I never see the Mediterranean house geckos (Hemidactylus turcicus) but lately I’ve been seeing his tail poke out of that hole in the driftwood. You can’t see the tail in the pic bc he moved when I wiped the condensation off the glass. Not sure if the female is still alive in there. The wingless fruit flies have reverted to winged forms which is annoying lol. And my friend brought me two species of springtails today. The orange ones are so freaking adorable omg look at the antennae. I’m gonna let them sit in the deli cups for a bit longer to culture them before releasing them

I woke up one morning a couple months ago and my roommate had caught a Mediterranean house gecko so we spent a few hours remodeling the 20 long I was using to grow potted episcia and a mini orchid into a bioactive terrarium. Haven’t seen her much since that first day but caught her under the log near the heat pad this morning. Tail looks fat and healthy. I might try mini mealworms soon

Little bit of sand at the bottom. Topsoil. Leaf litter from the yard. Branches from the yard, some partially burned (biochar?) and driftwood from old aquarium projects. The plastic thing is supposed to be a humid hide, not sure if they use it. Maybe they hide under it

My Episcia are blooming, first good show since I moved them into this terrarium. The one on the right was recently repotted, the old soil must’ve been severely depleted bc the central leaves started turning white 😱. But it’s bouncing back now
Also my orchid is still blooming. I’m kinda over it tbh, I’m ready to watch the new leaves grow in. It’s been almost 3 months of flowers, like, play a new song
I let it go 😅 also it looks so bad the crypts aren’t thriving and I want to just get rid of it
I should change my url to fishleastly since I’m more of an aquatic gardener now
