The only type of ghosts to be found that cemetery were the ghost-type Pokemon that lingered in the tall grass outside of the graveyard's official perimeter. Every time Magdalene stepped inside of it she felt nothing of the supernatural and, instead, was overcome by a great sense of peace. She tread lightly through the paths, her feet coming down on the pad of her foot instead of the heel as if she wished not to disturb those who were sleeping.Β
"I don't understand the rumors," she murmured to herself and, as she walked, she placed a hand to her chin. Her bright green eyes darted this way and that. In the morning she felt nothing, in the day she had felt nothing, and at night it was just the same. She stopped and put her hands on her hips, exhaling a sharp breath of air.Β
No spirit jumped out in an attempt to run her from the grounds. A slight breeze ruffled the tree tops and she shivered from the sudden chill as dried leaves collected around her feet.Β
In the dark the majority of the gravestones were blotchy silhouettes but by the sun's light she had noted how poorly kept they were; all crooked and crumbling like rotted teeth in an uneven smile. The atmosphere of the place were likely the cause of the rumors she had gleaned from the locals when she arrived two days prior.Β
She pressed on a little further and came across a secondary gate that sectioned off that part of the cemetery from the rest. The wealthy, she assumed. Even in death they were interested in keeping of the facade of superiority despite rotting much like every other corpse.
The fence was so twisted that Magdalene assume all that kept the wrought iron together was the pound of rust - opening the gate had caused a bunch of ruddy metallic flakes to rain down on her and she spat them out almost comically.Β
Here the graves were in slightly better condition but it was clear no groundskeeper had attended to any part of the graveyard for at least ten years. At the very top of the hill was a large and finely carved mausoleum. In the daylight she had marveled at its superior build; the elements did little to dent the building. Now in the dark it looked unreal half covered in shadow and standing out starkly compared to the rest of the dereliction that surrounded the mini corpse hut.Β
But she did. Magdalene followed the path up to the mausoleum and flicked her flashlight towards the doors when she was close enough to see the details. To her shock one of the black doors was cocked slightly open. Had someone been there? A lump rose in her throat. No one good...
"Excuse me!" she said out loud as she approached the slightly ajar door. "What are you doing in there?"Β
Of course she had no way of knowing if someone had actually gone in there or if time had simply ate away at what was keeping the place shut. Her free hand dipped in to her bag to grab on to a Pokeball, just in case she needed to defend herself and her Pokemon who relied on her.Β
