This is not your grave, get up has me going 👀👀👀
HFJUVEIALORFGVEJKEAL!!!!!!!!!!!! You and @mysteroads picked this one and!!! Its my baby!!! I've been picking it up on and off for like, six-ish months? Its also part of A Monster Is Not Such A Terrible Thing To Be, and occurs at the same time as Time Keeps On Slipping Into The Future and Pack The Dirt Over My Grave. Vergil and Dante get matching titles because they're shitheads <3
THIS IS NOT YOUR GRAVE, GET UP.
He knew time had passed, because each time he opened his aching eyes, the man in red looked worse.
The first time he’d seen him, eyes wild and a feral grin stretched across his face, he’d been bloodstained but joyous, fresh off of victory.
The second time, the man’s face was dirty, splashed with viscera, but his smile was no less unhinged. His eyes had hardened into chips of ice from their previously molten appearance. Mouth open and lips moving, he could not hear what the man was saying, but knew it was something taunting.
He was always, always taunting.
The third time, the man offered no words, his eyes held nothing but rage, his lips downturned in a snarl that had his fangs on full display, pupils slitted and eyes tinged red. He did not know what had the man looking so, but the whispers that never left sounded urgent and sad.
He still could not tell what the whispers were saying.
The fourth time, he stayed aware longer. He watched as the man fought, as demons surrounded him and as his sword whirled in his hands. His expression had faded from that first exuberant look into a grim resolve.
Holes peppered the coat, shirt, and vest he wore, and he could do nothing but watch as a long, sinuous demon wrapped around the man’s leg, lurched upward, and in its final act as the man slew it, breathed a yellow cloud into his face.
Surprise flickered across the man’s face as he waved away the poisoned air. As he coughed, he lunged after the remaining enemies, killing them and absorbing their essence with fluid grace. He staggered as the effects of the poison set in, shook his head violently, silver strands whipping back and forth, and looked up.
Directly at him.
The man’s face contorted in pain, emotions he did not have the words to name flickered into one another. Blue eyes shone as they filled with tears.
“Vergil?”
The broken sound of that one word was the first thing he had heard and recognized in however long he had been piecing himself back together.
Then he lost himself to the void once more.
told ya i had more for you >:)
wanted to make something special for the finale <3 based on the amazing fic from a little spark may burst a flame, part 2 of this series by the very sweet and talented @mysteroads. some extra art edit: this is now a print >:)
About that "ask me about my wips" post? I couldn't choose between "Go For The Throat" and "THIS IS NOT YOUR GRAVE, GET UP."
They both sound so cool!
(Also, seriously, how do you pick your titles? They all sound so badass! I need to know your secret 😉)
Ooooohhhhhhhh you chose good ones, and! They're both part of A Monster Is Not Such A Terrible Thing To Be!
Go For The Throat
The title for another chapter of How To (Re)Domesticate Your Half Feral Half Demon! I wasn't sold on it at first but the more I wrote for it the more I liked the title lol. I gift you a snippet of it cause we need more Patty and Dante dad-daughter dynamics!
---
(It occurred to him, much, much too late, that he didn't bother to correct the nurse that he was Patty's guardian, not her Dad. That realization sat heavily in his gut. Did he… have the right to do that? To not correct others on his relationship with the kid? He knew Patty refused to believe her mother was dead, and he was inclined to trust her instincts.
But she'd never, not once, mentioned her father. Perhaps it had something to do with the bond between mothers and daughters; or maybe the fact that Patty had something of her mother's to hang onto, something tangible, something real. There was nothing left of the father that couldn't be bothered to stick around long enough to prevent the kid from ending up in the orphanage, and, frankly, good riddance. Any man who was willing to let his child grow up questioning if they were ever loved at all was no man fit to be a father, and Dante would hunt him down and put him through the wall himself if that's what Patty wanted.
Maybe that said more about him than anything. But Patty was worth being angry over. Dante wouldn't let her question if anyone cared about her. She was too good of a kid to feel unloved like that, even if the one who loved her was a monster in his own right.
After all. She kept choosing the monster, too.)

THIS IS NOT YOUR GRAVE, GET UP.
OOOOOHHHHH THIS ONE IS SO GOOD. Its absolutely not finished, but it's a fic in its own right, part of A Monster, and occurs concurrently with Time Keeps On Slipping Into The Future and Pack The Dirt Over My Grave! You're not the only one who asked about it, so I shall tag you in the next one cause!!! I really love THIS IS NOT YOUR GRAVE, GET UP. and I really should pick it back up to finish lol!
(The secret to my titles is an extremely large Pintrest board titled "Quotes I like" that I've been curating since high school, so for the last ten to twelve years, that I've been cherry picking from LMAO. I do change my titles as I'm writing if the one I've already chosen doesn't feel right, but I tend to title sometime in the beginning of writing the fic, or if I have a prompt that I think fits the phrase well! Then as I'm going, I'll check if the title still has the right vibes for the fic! I was not always so good at titling, it took me a while to figure out. Sometimes I still make my partner chose from a list of possible titles and then either I use that one or it helped me figure out which one I liked most! Originally, the title for THIS IS NOT YOUR GRAVE was You Are The Flesh Maggots Adore but I decided it didn't fit the vibes anymore.)
Thank you for the ask my dear!!! :D
