by the time supernatural was in its twilight years all the publications that were still bothering to review it were grading it on such an absurd curve because expectations were so low that we were robbed of the truly fantastic bad reviews it deserved. classic spn is a fun, sometimes genuinely scary monster-of-the-week show with compelling emotional stakes weakened significantly by the -isms that result from its casual centering of straight white men. late spn is like watching a play put on by your friend’s republican cousin’s middle school aged sons at a party and realizing once you’re already sitting down and trapped that it’s about their parents’ divorce

so far the only post-s8 ep of spn i’ve seen that’s made me think, hey, that was a solid episode! has been 9x19 alex annie alexis ann. every other episode should have been deleted before broadcast to save us and the cast crew & creative team the embarrassment. you guys keep telling me s11 is good but i’m starting to think you are lying for a fun goof PLEASE tell me ruth connell is here to save me

sam not being a female character is a crime mostly because of the sheer mileage we would have gotten out of “the girl with the weight of the world in her hands” by the indigo girls

when cas gets his grace back in season 9 he canonically really misses being able to taste food! he says the experience of being human deepened his emotional awareness and feelings of connection to the people around him! there are all kinds of reasons why cas considers being an angel the ideal but it being what would actually make him happiest is not necessarily one of them
