Let’s not forget when Cho was treated like a traitor just because she chose to defend her friend (being the ultimate girls’ girl, a goddess, honestly, thank you Cho for so much, and I’m sorry for all the mistreatment) over a boy and even over political duty, exactly what a real girl would do, because friends come first, even when they mess up. But instead of being portrayed as the boss she is, Rowling paints her as a whiny, immature traitor.

Fleur is only respected by “the cool girls in the story” once she stops being herself and becomes a housewife who lives entirely for her husband. Basically, for Rowling, everything revolves around male validation: you’re only intelligent and brave if your friends are boys, because if your friends are girls, then you’re shallow, superficial, and a gossip. You’re only “cool and popular in a good way” if you’re admired for the same reasons a boy would be, and if they think you’re cool and popular, it doesn’t matter what the girls think.

it’s not a big deal that his preference is skinny brunette white women necessarily, because most people have preferences.

but if we’re being honest, it’s not just skinny brunette white women. it’s skinny brunette white women with perfect bodies, perfect hair, perfect skin, zero body hair. most of them have had at least 1 cosmetic procedure done, and to me, all of that combined is more than just a preference.

like you can’t tell me this man would go for a natural woman who doesn’t shave and doesn’t have perfect perky boobs and isn’t 100% symmetrical and hasn’t had any cosmetic procedures done at all.

When he created the nine houses he clearly had a huge influence on how they formed their societies; and I’ve seen theories about him slowing or manipulating the evolution of language and culture so it stays similar to what he grew up with. I absolutely adore this head-canon, and am curious about how that would have impacted misogyny. Ianthe calls Corona a slut in ntn, and we never see that term used towards a man. It seems to have the same or similar meaning as it does now, and it’s still derogatory.

Maybe John started controlling the culture in the nine houses on purpose, but as he became older he stopped concentrating on it, until it reflected his own mental state. He goes from despising the oligarchy the becoming it, and it makes sense for the same to apply to misogyny. Maybe he started with the intention of erasing misogyny, then ended up making it almost invisible. No one realizes it’s happening. Men think a little bit less of the women around them, but it’s not hateful enough to be noticed. Women think a little bit less of themselves but assume it’s a personal problem. Mercymorne was the last woman who remembered how things were before the changes, since Pyrrha probably didn’t interact with the houses enough to notice.

The nine houses are separated by race, but as we see with the sixth, that’s because they’ve been isolated for so long. Whatever genetic traits were most common when the houses were born have become the only traits. Gideon, Harrow, and Nona aren’t a reliable way to see bias within the houses; but they never observe any acts of racism. John, as a Māori man, would have been personally affected by racism before the houses. This made him truly want to erase it, so he would have done so consciously. The same applies to homophobia and any other hate that John was especially hurt by.

Many people believe that they have erased prejudice from themselves (such as “i don’t see colour”), when they’ve made some efforts to dismantle harmful beliefs. Dismantling hate never ends when you’re in the position of the oppressor. If John believed he wasn’t sexist, he wouldn’t check his actions to ensure he was creating a truly equitable world.

Of the original 8 lyctor pairs, there are 10 women and 6 men. At first this might seem feminist, however only two of the men are cavs, while six of the cavs are women, and the necros are 4:4. More women are cavaliers, therefore destined to die and suffer—perhaps eternally—for their necromancer. There are 3 men destined to sacrifice a woman, and only one woman destined to sacrifice a man.

John and Alecto were the first lyctoral pair, but John created Alecto’s body based on barbie, the perfect female figure. He is terrified of her, but also sees her as beneath him; and he decided she was a woman. He could have shaped her into anything, but making her a woman is how he gave the impression they were equals while treating her like a possession to control.

John clearly sees himself as better than everybody else, but I think he sees women as beneath men, therefore even lower under him.

I often think about how mothers lose their dreams, their passions, and even their sense of self once they enter motherhood or marriage. Instead, they are expected to live for someone else, to sacrifice for someone else.

In this world, mothers are rarely seen as individuals. Their identities are stripped away, replaced by the singular role of caretaker. They are no longer who they once were; they become somebody’s mother defined not by their own existence but by their relation to others. The girl who once dreamed of achieving great things, of carving out her own path, sees those dreams halted the moment she becomes a wife, and even more so when she becomes a mother.
