have been thinking about driving as a symbol of personal autonomy and agency and taking control, and itās really interesting to me how in the first season of the silt verses faulkner is literally doing all of the driving whenever heās w carpenter or carpenter&paige (well, other than that one time when heās unconscious cause a giant crab fucked him up real good). which kinda goes nicely together w the whole thing of him starting to carve out his story. the boy is fucking desperate to be behind the wheel of his (and honestly othersā) life!!
and then in season 3, heās often in cars (the drive from the Katabasiansā Council to the Gulch, from the radio station to the ruins of Gulch and from there to his dadās cabin, and once again from his family home to the Grand Aquifer) but all of these times heās being driven around. not onceeee is he himself behind the wheel. and that, on one hand, is obviously due to the position of power/authority and thus comfort that heās now occupyingānow he has people to perform these kinds of services for him. butttttt i also think that it shows that the reins arenāt fully in his hands and in actuality heās really not as in control as heād like to think he is.
good job, buddy, youāve made the narrative of your story into a self-perpetuating machine, now it can run along all on its own!:D youāre now stuck in the passenger seat of your life<3
