The recent resurgence in the hour record has reopened an iconic aspect of cycling, Jens Voigt was the first big name to claim the record, followed in quick succession by Brändle, Dennis and more recently Alex Dowsett. Whilst, Dowsett was earning his living spinning his wheels at the Criterium du Dauphine, a certain Bradley Wiggins was looking to enhance his already impressive palmares. An unabashed fan of cycling history, the name Wiggins is already well established, with world, Olympic and Tour De France wins to name but a few, but the hour record holds a special place in cycling culture, one that from the 7th has Sir Bradley’s name etched alongside it.

With a distance of 54.526KM, he blew past the distance set by Movistar rider Alex Dowsett (52.937KM), firing a warning to all of those that doubt what he can achieve as he swaps his effort back to the track for Rio.

With the all time no holds barred hour record of 56.375KM by Chris Boardman still within reach and Dowsett claiming he still has some in the tank, we may well see this rivalry break new ground!
