Great job!! You should def be proud about being a healthier you and achieving goals that you set out for yourself! Happy 1yr anniversary and just imagine where you’ll be in y2 :D

A Happy!verse Fic (06/08/14)

"So, dude," Stiles starts. He and Derek are parked on the side of the road, engine left idling and mid-morning sun beating down on them through the windshield. They're supposed to be at their hotel by now. There's a barn on Stiles' left and grazing cattle on his right. This is not their hotel. "You know that exit that I told you we were supposed to take like a million miles ago?"

"A million miles is a bit of a hyperbole," Derek quips moodily. 

"Whatever, I was supposed to take that exit. I know it."

Derek doesn't reply. He just sits there, still as a statue with his arms across his chest and his eyes trained out the Jeep's passenger window. There is absolutely nothing interesting out there. 

Stiles continues anyway, "I have no idea where we are right now."

The werewolf takes what Stiles assumes is a calming breath but still remains silent.

"I mean...logically I do know where we are. There are, like, a ton of signs and my phone has GPS. I just--this isn't where we're supposed to be."

Nothing.

"Speaking of my phone's GPS, we could've used that."

Stiles doesn't even look. He can physically feel Derek's jaw tensing. 

"Like I suggested in the first place."

Now the glare has made its appearance known. Right on time, too. 

"Which you said was unnecessary."

More glaring.

"I mean it's never let me down before."

How has his jaw not cracked from all that clenching?  

"And it knows like--"

"I get it Stiles! I fucked up," Derek bursts. "It's not like it's the fucking first time."

Okay, wait, no. "Hey, whoa. Come on. It's not--"

"Shut up," Derek tells him, but there's very little fire behind it. Just a soft little plea that Stiles is hopeless against. They sit in silence, only the hum of the air conditioning and the steady drum of Stiles fingers against the steering wheel between them.

"Hey have you ever been on a cave tour before?" Stiles says suddenly.

Derek raises his eyebrows. "What?"

"I mean...I saw some signs for a cave tour a little ways back. Looks kind of cool."

"Yeah?" Derek replies, eyes going a little soft as they flick over Stiles' face.

"Yeah. We should go. And like...there's some museums around here I think. Historical landmark or two. I know how much you like that nerdy shit."

The werewolf rolls his eyes, but the corners of his lips are twitching. "It's not--"

"Whatever loser," Stiles interrupts with a wink. "Secure your pocket square in the full upright position and let's jet."

"You're such an ass," Derek tells him fondly.

Stiles reaches over the middle console and grabs his hand. "You love it."
