I became a mom too early in my life. I was still in school and to say that I was devastated was an understatement. I almost gave up on all my dreams. . When my first born daughter came into this world, that’s when reality hit me. It suddenly dawned on me that I should stop sulking and that I should start becoming somebody greater than my despair and devastation. That I should not stop at just being a student struggling to keep up with the demands of school or an unsure mom replete with guilt and self pity. And so I persevered! . I was able to turn my life into something better, bigger and bolder that even I, myself did not imagine happening! I found myself making a name in the design industry and found grand pockets of opportunity to collaborate with the best designers around the globe. . I was on the minority side of the web design industry since it was dominated by male designers. I was able to somehow change the public's perception about female ones—-that we are not inferior and that we can be very strong competitors in the industry. I was able to somehow help the industry realize that women, too, deserve a space and respect in this side of the spectrum. . Although I am now into another field (but still arts) I still feel very blessed because I am still able to share the beauty of life as it is, to not give up and continue to hope and dream even during desperate moments. Excellence. What constitutes it? How do we achieve it? I wish I could say there was an easy 3 step plan. But in reality, there is no easy path. There are a lot of distractions along the way, and honestly, many who would say the laborious trade off isn’t worth. I’m an actor by inspiration. In my early years, I remember devoting extensive hours to auditions, not quite understanding what I was doing, and often feeling discouraged by rejections. There were several moments when nothing was more attractive than quitting. I remember talking to myself, relaying my youthful worries, and an inner voice told me “if you show up, something will happen.” It is an age-old advice to just keep at it and for me, it was a drummer I could march to. Now after 4 years of being an expression practitioner, I’m finally scratching the surface of my passion. I’d offer that we adopt the pace of nature when it comes to pursuing excellence in our craft.
