I love their playfulness.
I miss it.
The teasing, the happy tones, the flirting.
This, to me, was a glimpse into life living with married Emma and Killian. Put them in their house and have Emma getting ready for work in the morning.
“I’ve got to run to the station and finish off those reports from yesterday. It’s a risky mission - I might not make it back home before lunchtime. However will you cope without me for so long?”
“I know when you’re being facetious.”
This is a completely different Killian to the one that was in the diner just before.
Diner Killian was airing all his fear and frustration. He’s terrified, he’s angry, and he wants more than anything for everyone to realise just how badly they need to move forward and help Emma. He’s had enough of dawdling- it’s time for everyone to pull their thumb out and get on track with saving her.
But this Killian right here is masked. He doesn’t want Emma seeing any worries or fear- he doesn’t want her to be scared or doubtful… so he’s nothing but the loving supportive boyfriend full of hope. Because that’s what Emma needs.
And that’s what he’ll give her.
And she’s reassuring both of them that she’s got this. They have a plan and it’s going to work.
“Be careful, Emma” - he still worries for her.

Merlin’s words are playing on Killian’s mind, and he has an idea of how to show Emma that he loves her, cares about her, and wants her to stay safe and have hope.
His brother’s ring.
Just what else are you hiding in that chest of yours, sir?
This makes me giggle.

“Aye, Swan, I have eyes. It’s a ring…”
Her face literally goes from “i’m not ready!” to “wait- why not?!”

THE DISAPPOINTMENT IS REAL
“I was only protesting for dramatic effect, Killian. You can propose if you want, you know”
Bless him. He’s reliving his past to show her just how much this ring means to him.
This ring that now belongs to her.
The thing he believes has been keeping him alive for so long…. is now hers.
She gets it. He’s worried. He’s let his fear seep through in a way that doesn’t alarm her or frighten her…
It instead makes her want to give him hope now.
“You know I can’t die today. I’m immortal now.”
She doesn’t want him stressing himself out over her safety.
Look at the concern in his face.
“The dark one is immortal. Emma isn’t. Bring her home to me.”
He’s separating her from the darkness. Letting her know he’s still here for Emma. That the immortality will be gone and Emma will be back to herself soon… and that’s who he’s for waiting to come home.
It’s almost like she’s remembering that this is not permanent. The immortality, the powerful magic- she’ll be back to regular Emma once this is all over.
And his worry for her wellbeing is sinking in.
There is still a chance that she could get hurt.
But he can’t let her go off on her journey all sad and serious….
If she doesn’t want to take it as a token of good luck, then take it as a token of his love for her… a reminder that he’s there waiting for her.

SHE’S JUST SO HAPPY THAT THIS WONDERFUL, SUPPORTIVE, ROMANTIC MAN WITH A HEART OF GOLD IS ALL HERS.
But his frown kills me. it’s like he’s trying to channel his love and hopes for her to be safe into that kiss.
She loves him too. Of course she does. How could she not?
I love that this time when she says it, there’s no fear in her eyes. She means it, and she’s not afraid to say it.
But he’s got to let her go do her thing now.
He looks like he’s telling her “be safe, Swan.” with his eyes.
Because homeboy’s lost everything he’s ever loved and losing Emma would destroy him - he can’t help but worry.

As we were flailing over Colin's ability to express so much just with his face, I'm thinking of another scene for you to analyze: Show us the exact moment (you can see it in his eyes!!) when the guy tied to that tree turns from being a poor scared blacksmith to that completely different person, the angry, dangerous pirate Captain Hook.
YESSS!!! Let’s go way back!!
To where it all began!!
Look at him.
Pulling out the soulful tortured puppy eyes.
Putting on the humble charm.
He’s really selling this whole “weak and frightened blacksmith” routine.
And they’re eating it up. Completely falling for it.
Lowering their defences and oozing sympathy for this “poor defenceless guy” while mourning the loss of those lost in the tragic tale he’s spinning.
All except one lady.
Emma smells a bullshitter.
She pulls the nice cop on him.
“Listen up… you’re good but not that good. I’m not buying it… so if you give me the truth now, things might go a little smoother. Cos honestly? I know you’re lying through your teeth.”
And he tries, bless him.
He’s probably gotten so used to the opposite sex falling for his tactics that he’s stopped trying so hard - that or he’s just become so confident they’ll all fall for it.
Ha! Killian, you done fucked up, matey.
She’s giving him a sympathetic smile but her eyes are screaming “gotcha”.
You’re not fooling Emma Swan, Killian.
And he’s thinking he’s safe. Crisis averted.
Aww bless Snow. Look at her. Befriending him and having a good old chat about Henry.

And that’s when Killian screws up.
He gets sloppy and a little smug. He jumps right into ‘helping’ them, completely confident that he’s got them in the palm of his hand.
You can see that some of that facade he’s been playing as dropped off.
Slight pieces of who he is are flashing through in his smile.
But Emma’s buying none of it.
He’s probably thinking “Fuck. How do I get out of this one. Think, Killian, think!”
This wasn’t part of the plan…
And this is going to need a lot more work - this isn’t your typical EF woman who flutters at a sad face and a tragic story.
Side note: Look how bendy and rubbery the ‘knife’ is lol
But he’s dedicated. He keeps the charade up, determined to have them believe he’s innocent.
He’s trying to look as frightened as he can.
Emma’s had enough now. She knows he’s lying and she’s beyond this act. He’s not fooling her and she has no time for liars.
He’s of no use to them.
And he really gives it his all.
Killian’s a fighter and he’s struggling so hard to win this one.
He’s got everyone else doubtful about leaving him except Emma.
He’s got to admit defeat here. It’s no longer working for him.
Time to give up the game.
Look at that change! You see the fear and desperation completely drop from his face as irritation kicks in.
He’s not scared.
He’s annoyed. Inconvenienced.
Emma’s completely squashed his plan. He now knows he’s not going to get anywhere with her by pretending to be someone else.
Look how relaxed his face is compared to when he was faking.
That fear is completely gone.
“Alright, fine. You win this one, lass. And i’m honestly impressed. You want to know who I really am? Here he is.”
This is captain hook now.
And it finally gets Emma’s attention.
This is a complete 180 from the nervous Nigel they found a couple hours ago.
This guy is sarcastic, witty and… dangerous.
and Emma knows it.
She’s gotten through to him and she knows there’s more to it.. so she goes to leave him again, knowing he’ll crack. She’s got his number now.
He’s in the palm of her hand.
And Killian knows it.
Captain Hook is getting impatient.
He needs to get to that beanstalk and he’s quickly learning that trying to deceive this women won’t get him anywhere.
He’s gotten further by being brutally honest, if he wants out of here he’s got to be at the mercy of Emma, who’s not taking any of his crap.
Emma’s giving him one last chance. If he’s going to be an asset, this next moment makes or breaks if he’s left to die or dragged along with them.
And he knows it too.
I’m sorry I just really fucking love how he looks at her there. Part angry that she dare hold a knife to his throat, part impressed because she dares to hold a knife to his throat.... part intrigued and aroused because this woman means serious business.... and she’s bested him. Just who is this woman?
He gives her the truth.
He’s not a hero, he’s not a good guy. He’s out for blood.
And an understanding passes between them.
There’s no trust there - but there’s a slight understanding.
She gets his motive, he gets he can’t deceive her.
for the meta thing, have you done the dark one fight yet? y'know when emma finds killian after she turns him into the dark one and he just feels so betrayed? i love that scene!
The dark one fight is definitely one of my top favourite moments… because I am an angst whore.
Just a quick reminder - these are simply my thoughts and perceptions of the scenes, i’m in no way saying i’m right and i’m definitely not saying it’s exactly what happened. It’s purely my own interpretation and i’ve no doubt that most would probably disagree with my views. But please try to remember that these are only being made for fun and not to be taken seriously in any way.

And with that said, we shall begin!
He may be newly darkened, angry and hurting right now… but Killian Jones is still at the forefront.
He still won’t see any harm come to Emma, even if he is upset with her right now.
He certainly won’t kill her to get his revenge.
Emma’s completely oblivious to just how upset he is. She’s just thankful it worked and he’s still alive.
But he soon clues her in.
This is the first time we see Killian truly angry at Emma and expressing his feelings. And I think it’s great tbh.
This was one thing he asked of her, begged of her, and she refused him.
Emma’s trying to calm him, I don’t think she truly realises just yet what she’s done to him - she seems very relieved that her plan worked, and because it did, she’s more determined and sure than ever that they’re going to be fine.
They’ll get rid of the darkness together.
This bit I find really interesting.
He’s just asked her about excalibur, and Emma’s told him a lie. Rumple is of course meddling, but look at killian’s face there.
It’s quite similar to the face he has when he realises she’s after something from him on his ship.
He’s reading her.
But the moment is interrupted and the poor guy is stuck with all sorts swirling around in his brain leaving him feeling a full spectrum of emotions - but mostly I think he’s confused now.
He doesn’t know what to do or how to feel with all these new feelings flying around inside.
Emma’s still determined to show him she’s right.
They can overcome this and get back to their future.
And he’s completely messed up. He wants so badly to believe her. To trust her.
His whole world has been turned upside down and he doesn’t know what to hold on to.
All he wants the darkness gone, just like Emma.
He never asked for this.
But she reminds him of their plans. And he wants it. He wants to go home.
She does for him what he did for her - makes the demon disappear, and finally there’s a slither of hope back for them.
They might just make it through this.
Killian still believes in her… and he still trusts her.

***BACK TO THE SCHEDULED PROGRAMME***
Excalibur is calling to him, Rumple’s there to tell him Emma’s been lying to him.
But he doesn’t want to believe it.
He trusts her still. She wouldn’t lie to him.
Emma returns hastily and there’s panic on her face.
He asks her if she knows where Excalibur is… he doesn’t accuse her. Because he still doesn’t believe she’d lie to him.
But she approaches him with hesitance, she warns him he’s being manipulated… and that tells him what he needs to know.
He knows Rumple is right.
She has excalibur. And she lied to him.
Emma knows she’s messed up again. The guilt on her face. She can’t lie anymore. She has the sword.
He needs to hear it from her.
He needs her to admit it.
And this is the part where Killian breaks.
Because it’s becoming clear to him.
All those insecurities he had are coming to the surface.
All those doubts and worries he had are a reality.
Emma’s trying to make him understand why she kept it from him - trying to explain. But where he’s always taken her word and followed her undoubtedly, he isn’t this time.
She’s gone too far.
Killian finally lets the dam break and all his hurt and anger comes out.
And Emma’s finally realising just how much she’s damaged him.
She didn’t want this. She didn’t mean to betray him like that. And you can see how sorry she is.
He’s constantly been by her side. Constantly fought her corner.
He’s done nothing but stand by her and trust her - support her and respected her choices. Even when her own family couldn’t give her the same respect or honour.
She knows he’s right.
And she can’t help but smile - even in this moment - at just how dedicated to her, and in love he is with her.
He’s always believed in her.
“But clearly you don’t believe in me anymore”
The waver in his voice kills me.
Because although he’s been nothing but supportive and loving and beside Emma... when it came to it, she couldn’t be the same for him.
She betrayed him, she lied to him, and she’s just shown him how little she trusts him.
Something Killian has always had to fight for with her - she still doesn’t trust him.
This woman he loves completely and unconditionally, has forced him to be something he hates the most, and has hurt him way beyond more than he could imagine.
And that’s when Killian Jones begins to give up.
She doesn’t have to say any more. He doesn’t want to hear anymore.
Emma Swan has proven to him just how little she thinks of him... and its completely broken his heart.
There is nothing left for him to fight for.
All he has is an emptiness inside that’s running on rage and revenge.
Have you ever seen him look so deathly?
I don’t know how else to describe it. Cold? Empty?
Killian is barely there anymore.
There is one last thing i’d like to bring up....
He tells Emma that when she used Excalibur to control him that all bets were off.
So I was looking back at the scene in the middlemist field and trying to figure out just when and what made him give in....
And for me personally, I think it’s the ‘I love you’.
He’s still very angry and final in his feelings, completely ready to walk away from her once again, right up until she offers him excalibur.
He’s looking at her with weariness and doubt....
and he seems like he’s still trying to read her....
And then she says she loves him....
He has a shake of his head which causes her to ask him what’s wrong....
“I’m usually the one who has to say that first.”
To me, it’s like he’s piecing things together. She’s giving him excalibur, she’s said I love you first.... she’s already distracted him with pretty words about their future once this night....
I think Killian feels she’s manipulating him again.
I could be completely wrong, but he’s just been forced into a dark one by Emma, manipulated by emma, and lied to by Emma...
He’s also got the same darkness running through his veins. And rumple’s words. His trust in her has been torn apart and all he’s got is the darkness which has almost won at this point.
I feel like he’s sure that she’s trying to manipulate him again, only this time, he’s going to do it right back to get to what he wants.
Because Killian Jones has lost all ability to care anymore.
And this is where the darkness finally takes control.

And he’s got the nervous tick going too. Emma’s nekkid, behind that tree stump, and he’s a gentleman…. but they’re also short on time and have to get moving.
He’s probably had to stand there, staring into the moss on the bark around him while various grunts, huffs and ruffles of clothing come from behind that tree.
BOOBS.
SWAN BOOBS.
No but bless him. He loves Emma just the way she is and how she dresses. And he’s hardly been in Storybrooke that long. The world is all new to him.
And now here’s Emma. The woman he’s mad about, dressed in the clothes of his realm. The clothes he’s accustom to.
And it’s like a fantasy come to life for him.
It’s almost like that scene in every damn teen movie where the ‘unpopular’ girl walks in with a make over/prom dress on, and the boy has trouble picking his jaw up.
Killian is fuckstruck - part 1.
Emma’s out of her comfort zone.
She’s got to leave her armour and her defences behind.
And she’s uneasy about it, of course she is. She’s used to being the one in charge, setting the plan and making the orders.
She’s going to be difficult and question everything.
And Killian, patient as he is, drops a scenario on her instead of telling her how it is, because he knows he can bring her to reason if they get to the point together, rather than saying something like “Regina will see you, recognise you and your strange clothing, and it will ruin the timeline”…. because that’d just make emma challenge him just to prove him wrong.
But she’s wonderfully stubborn and still continues to protest, purely out of principle now. She doesn’t like to give up easily.
He’s trying his hardest to make her see reason and keep to the mission.
But he’s still in awe.
You can’t blame him really.
He’s a red blooded human…. And Emma’s hot AF.
He’s grabbing one last ogle to store away for his spank bank.
Emma throws in one last protest about the wardrobe change…
… and he can’t help but take the bait.
LOOK AT THAT FACE
“Honestly, Swan, you look amazing.”
AND LOOK AT THIS PROGRESS.
She’s not rolling her eyes or giving him an “are you kidding me?!” death glare…
She’s smiling!! Happy days!!
It’s like that moment she relents. “Okay, you win. I’ll wear the lung-crushing disguise.”

This moment is lovely though. He’s bringing the seriousness back to the situation, and instead of belittling her discomfort or being smug about her having to rely on him, he’s understanding.
The way he consoles her is like he’s saying “I know you hate this and I know it’s bloody torture for you, but if you let me, i’ll get us both back. Just put a little trust in me and we’ll be fine.”
And she knows he’s right.
She can’t charge into the place with her jeans, leather jacket and gun… sheriff Swan is having to go undercover in a world she knows hardly anything about.
Her trust has to be put into his hands.
And so she follows.

Tavern scene
I want to start with the shot just before we get to the tavern
He’s so sure of himself. This is a great plan. Time to show Swan how cunning I am. We’re going to succeed.
And he’s all cocky about it too.
Why does he remind me of some guy trying to impress a girl by showing off?
“And here’s the picture of me winning the marathon cup. Fastest time on record and I raised $1000 for the animal shelter too. Rather dashing in my short-shorts, don’t you think?”
And Emma’s got a bad feeling about this plan
“Are you sure this is a good idea? I mean you’re a loose canon at the best of times and you want to go mess with past you while he’s half tanked on rum?”
And he’s looking back at himself, remembering how he used to be and there’s a look of disdain.
He’s not that man anymore.
But this is the best plan they’ve got for now so they’ll have to make it work.
I NEED YOU ALL TO GO BACK AND WATCH THIS PARTICULAR MOMENT.
BECAUSE BLURRY EMMA TOTALLY CHECKS OUT PASK HOOK
WITH A SMILE AND A HEAD MOVEMENT- JUST GO WATCH IT.
But she totally catches herself and goes back to “alright, if i have to..” facade.

But Killian’s feeling a little ashamed of his old self now. He’s not really liking this plan.

He’s realising this is a terrible plan.
Seeing his past self in action.
And seeing Emma preparing to go mingle with him.
This is a bad idea.
He’s regretting it now.
This could go horribly horribly wrong.
But it’s too late to back out now. The wheels are in motion.
Emma’s looking forward to this and nothing will convince me otherwise.
And he’s holding his jealousy back as hard as he can, slapping on a smile with his cautions.
“Just… be careful.”
Killian’s not worried she’s going to get hurt… he’s worried she’s going to play right into his past self’s charms.
He doesn’t want Emma getting cosy with another version of himself… especially one not worthy of her company.
She sees right through him - he’s jealous and she’s enjoying it.
Emma made a living out of pulling these kinds of stings. She’s got some of her footing back. This is something she’s confident is going to work now, and now he’s unsure, she’s loving it.
The fact he’s so nervous assures her that this is going to work.
And who can blame her for looking forward to this?
She gets to have some no strings attached flirting with him, without repercussions.
Because there’s no denying Emma is attracted to him and does have feelings for him… but she’s not at the point where she’s ready to admit it and further their relationship.
So she gets to release some of her pent up attraction without consequences.
He’s busted.
“Laugh it up Swan, i’m going out.” And he sulks off lol.
i kind of feel a little sorry for him there though. He is jealous, and she’s poking fun of that jealousy. He’s a little butthurt that she finds his feelings so amusing.
Emma finds it adorable. And homegirl’s feeling smug that she was right.
Oh... she’s ready ;)

It must be so overwhelming for him, yet he handles it like a trooper.

To me, it’s a role reversal if you will.
Emma’s in the position of supporter - she’s holding him up, taking the reins and reeling him in with seduction, showing him how it’s done, leading him - the role that’s typically left for the male in romantic situations.
And Killian is the the one leaning on her. Trusting her, hanging on her every word and losing himself in her sensuality. The role typically meant for the woman.
And while he’s completely smitten and getting lost in her beauty, she’s smiling because she knows the effect she’s having.
It’s a role reversal and it’s absolutely gorgeous.

To be honest, I’d quit doing them. I’d seen a few things in fandom that hurt me more than they should have, and it just really put me off continuing. I felt uncomfortable continuing.
But Friday night I just said fuck it and started making them again. I enjoy doing them and I decided I don’t care anymore about what people think/feel about me. i’m having fun and that’s all that matters.
So i’ve been keeping them in my drafts and hopefully you should get one today or tonight even lol.

Look how alone he is.
A whole party going on inside and he’s by himself. In the dark. Wallowing in the silence, probably believing that he doesn’t belong.
Killian fucking Jones, you make my organs bleed with hurt.
And the last person he expected to join him was Emma.
And he gets a bittersweet little smile on his face, locking away whatever emotions he was drowning in and schooling himself for whatever she’s come to talk to him about.
This guy has walls too.

I genuinely think she jus didn’t want him to be on his own.
She missed him.
They’d just gone on an adventure together, been by each other’s side through thick and thin, and when they were finally back and the danger is gone, when they’re celebrating, she wanted to turn and see him there by her side still. But he wasn’t. He was alone and so she sought him out.
Gave him companionship when he deserved it most. And chose to talk to him, include him, to talk about their adventure now that it’s over and done with.
And he flirts and banters with her, keeps his tone neutral.
And she enjoys it. Encourages it.
This is comfortable for them.
This is what they do.
This is their comfort zone - their equal footing.
But milady has that dance they shared fresh in her mind and his compliments are having an effect.
Her downplaying his flattery is different.
She’s not rolling her eyes or jibing back snarkily… she’s smiling and speaking softly. She likes his compliments and believes them this time.
And then she drops the thank you.

But this isn’t a stiff thank you followed by a flirty challenge..
This thank you is heartfelt. Earnest.
Emma’s taking the conversation to a serious turn.
And Killian follows suit. This isn’t a sexy pat on the lips and a cocky request for a smooch.
He’s letting the man of honour come forth. No more deflecting. He believes it was the right thing to do and he tells her so.
And she believes him. You can see her taking him in. Probably using her lie detector and realising he’s being honest.
He’s surprised her yet again.
“how did you do it? How did you get to me?”
I love this line so much.
To me, she’s not just talking about New York. It’s like she’s asking him
“How did you get in? How did you become important to me? how did you win my heart?”
(People will probably say i’m wrong but that’s just how i personally read it)
And he tells her.
He keeps it light and neutral.
Telling a story without any real emotion coming through.
He’s still guarding himself.
Look at this.
Look at her watching him, smiling, she simply adores him, and he’s trying so hard to keep himself from giving anything away.
And she goes along with him, keeps things light too.
But she can tell there’s more to the story, there’s a reason why he’s been reluctant to share any information about that missing year.
So she pries gently.
“Those are not easy to come by.”
He’s nervous now. He’s fidgeting with his flask and looking away.
He knows the answer is going to affect her but he doesn’t know how.
But he’s not going to lie to her.
He tries keeping the answer brief in hopes she won’t take it any further.
“They are if you’ve got something to trade.”
And she wants to know.
She’s still being playful, probably expecting him to say he traded a bag of gold and two barrels of rum or something.

AND EVERY SINGLE DOUBT OR SECOND THOUGHT SHE HAD ABOUT HIS TRUE FEELINGS AND INTENTIONS IS THROWN AWAY.

This is my favourite part of the kiss.
They’re just completely entwined.

Mouths fused together.
This is more than just a kiss.
This is opening up, breaking down walls and letting the other in, this is acceptance, this is moving forward, this is giving into what’s been held back for so long.
