It has been nearly 6 weeks since I have had anything South Indian . My last one was the Pandhi Curry I made myself . I personally think most of the South Indian food in the Himalayan hills is rather mediocre. That is why desist from them usually but when you see something iconic like @indiancoffeehouse in Shimla , you can't resist it. With an old world charm like no other and super efficient service with the turbanned waiters, this one has a menu almost identical to the one in Chandigarh. What you should really try is the mutton dosa. Meat dosas which are so intrinsic to Tamil Nadu, surprisingly features in a keema filled pocket avatar here. The sambaar also has a more South Indian flavor with ground coriander, chilli, fenugreek and asafoetida . The red chutney is quite on the lines of a Keralan chammandi . Ironically the coffee here passes no muster . Another thing you should try is the jam toast which is again thanks to the mention by @singhsavitoj . It is toasted with salted butter on one side & a generous amount of mixed fruit jam on the other. Quite nice.
