YOU FORGOT THE CUTEST BATS OF THEM ALL! (the honduran white bat)!!!

As I was writing up that post I was all like "I fucking know someone's going to bring up the Honduran white bat" YES THEY ARE REALLY CUTE

and YES they do do that really cool thing where they bite leaves to make them collapse and make little tents and stuff.

But these bats already get a lot of good press and I like to focus more on the hideous and maligned ones, because they need more love.

Besides, if it's a question of cuteness, I'll ALWAYS go for the hoary bat.

Hej Koryos! I just wanted to ask something about your dog domestication post. I heard one theory that dogs descended from Jackals (in parts of Asia or Africa [or both??]) and that as homo sapiens moved north, they interbred them with wolves to allow them to withstand the conditions. What is your take on this?

It's an interesting theory, but at this point it's outdated. This paper on the genetic analysis of dog mtDNA pretty much eliminates the chance of any species aside from the gray wolf from contributing to the dog gene pool. They tested both jackal and coyote species and found them too far removed from dog DNA.
