To truly love the ocean/to be part sea creature, you have to respect it, and what better way to respect something than to have it almost kill you?! At least in my experience. (this was before my cousin and I got pulled out too far and couldn't touch and I swim back, pulling him, panicked and floundering, back to shore so I feel like I came out even more fish like). It is an extremely odd sensation though, I've never felt more disconnected, and in less control of my body
Oh, I agree with that wholeheartedly.Ā Experience a force as terrifying as that firsthand and live to talk about it?Ā Yep, it definitely adjusts oneās perspective!Ā You got your cousin out of that like a BAMF.Ā I have this thing where, the times Iāve snorkeled (which is difficult because I flat-out feel like I canāt breathe through the tube even though it lends access to air), I manage to get really close to fish, or they get really close to me, and itās kind of like the bond I have with my aquarium fish.Ā I donāt know; I feel like I just know how to communicate with them or seem nonthreatening or whatever.Ā Even animals I donāt always like (dogs, mostly) seem to like me, but it goes double for aquatic ones.Ā Iāve kept aquariums and raised and cared for and bred fish all my life.
Iāve been living in the desert for a year and a half now, which I think is super hilarious.Ā All my friends out here say it has rained more since my arrival than they can ever remember, and this was in response to my observing that it rained more often than I expected.Ā And in the indigenous mythologies of this landscape, there are impressive water monsters, so I suppose I havenāt come to a place thatās totallyĀ devoid of creatures with which I identify.
