Zephielโs expression betrayed no glee nor savage triumph. As he watched the cowering boy run, he felt nothing. His stare was utterly devoid of any emotion. Even with the corpse of Roy as he feet, his gaze was unblinking, his manner completely unaffected by his murder of a child.ย
โWill you pursue him, milord?โ asked one of the soldiers.
โYes,โ answers Zephiel, his voice cold and unchanged.ย โIf Lycia is unaware of their staggering defeat, then we gain the upper hand. Pursue the boy and imprison him; kill him if you wish. So long as you guaranteeย that his lips remain sealed, I care not for his fate.โ
The soldiers obeyed. The War Dragons roared as they stepped forth from the staircases, serving as his reinforcements. Man and dragon worked as one to block the entrances, so that theyโd entrap the fleeing boy and ensure his death or capture. As they moved on Wolt, Zephiel stepped from his throne and examined the Royโs fresh corpse. As they dueled, something had caught his eye. It was not enough to distract him, but it had certainly gained his attention.ย
There it was! Emblazoned upon Royโs blade was a familiarย gemstone. The Fire Emblem, stolen from Bern by his treacherous sister. Poor, foolish Guinevere. She had entrusted her hopes to an idealistic child that had likely reminded her of him. Roy was as naive and trusting as Zephiel once was, and that was likely why Guinevere had trusted him so much. Her emotions led her astray, for, even now, she had pined for the days of their happier childhood.ย
Zephiel knelt down and pried the Binding Blade from Royโs hands in a swift, fluid motion.ย
With that motion, he had diffused his sisterโs hopes for good, and ensured that his liberation would sweep the world.
