When the smallest diamond returned to her palace, it was obviously clear she was in a very sour mood from the look on her face. Rather than her usual greeting to her new Pearl, Pink merely gave her a small wave before taking a seat in the recreational room. She stared for a moment at the distant silhouette of White Diamond’s ship before sighing and moving to close the curtains, blocking the looming presence out of sight.
Seems she’d gotten in another argument of some kind with the other diamonds.
♦ Pearl, we won’t be practicing in the holo-room today, I don’t have the energy right now.
It was typical for the two of them to be off to a room Pink used to simulate a colony throne room, something Pink had built in the hopes of amassing enough experience to be granted an actual colony of her own. But what was the use when the others just refused to listen, much less acknowledge her most of the time...?

RAGE IS THE angry furrow of her brow, it sparks bright and hot under her skin, until Catra’s question whittles it down to smoke. Adora has to think for a moment. Why is she still here? Her expression tones down a few notches, leaving something tired and mildly frustrated in its place. But she refuses to soften, to open herself up. Not again. Not like before. The door to her heart is firmly shut, which makes it all the more difficult for her to come up with an answer that makes any sense.
❝…I don’t know, Catra.❞ She’s exasperated. Maybe I want to know why you did it. Maybe I want to know what I could have possibly done to make you hate me so much. The voice in her head is bitter, but it cares too much. It cares more than she’s willing to admit, after everything that happened. Adora closes her eyes before they can betray her feelings, bites her tongue hard enough to draw blood. When she opens her eyes again, they’re polished over, like steel. Maybe I want to know if you regret it– any of it. ❝I really don’t know.❞
In her silence is an unspoken plea, an opportunity for Catra to take responsibility, to apologize. Adora can be slow on the uptake sometimes, but she learns from experience and knows better than to wait with bated breath. She should leave– she should leave now, before this turns into a big mistake. Fingertips trace over ridges in the hilt of her sword, a reminder not to be careless, a reminder of the Queen’s sacrifice, and she grips tight, knuckles turning white around it. Can’t let it go, can’t let it out of her sight again. This is why she can’t trust anymore, why she has to bury any thoughts that dare to hope that they could ever move past this. They’re walking different paths, paths that they chose, and Adora has to accept that. Even if it makes them enemies.
❝If you’re really just going to let me leave–❞ Adora speaks loudly, in a painfully obvious attempt to address anyone else who might be in the vicinity, as if to clarify that she expects something underhanded. Like an ambush. She narrows her eyes, gaze darting around the trees for lackeys before settling exclusively on Catra. Nothing yet. She braces herself, takes a slow step back. ❝I guess I’ll go.❞
