The storm was certainly a small surprise for her, considering the cold of winter was only just starting to leave, though maybe it was the willingness of mother nature to shower the earth after being frozen for so long...So she had said a bit too dramatically to her boyfriend, resulting in giggles between the both of them. Though she had only gotten a tad wet on the way there, she was certainly glad to be inside where the cold water wouldn’t freeze her to the bone, hearing how it pounded against Justin’s apartment now. And she was thankful that they made dinner already too, having finished off the remnants of her curry and rice before being able to snuggle closer to Justin while the documentary played.
And yet, of course, she still had a small pang of worry. Cute penguin chicks weren’t enough comfort for the loud booms of thunder outside, jumping a bit as she nuzzled her head into Justin’s shoulder. She wondered how long the storm would go on for, concerns over friends who could be out and about popping into her mind. And then there was the problem of how she would get home; of course fighting with the storm would be hard for her and probably slowed down the train lines immensely, and she didn’t want her mother trying to drive in this weather...
Though she certainly didn’t want to bother Justin with having to stay over, his sudden words put her a bit more at ease. No he wouldn’t mind; he cared about her dearly and could probably guess at some of the thoughts in her head right now, and how much they matched with his own. His first sentence already had her smiling a bit before the next couple made it falter; tomorrow afternoon...It wasn’t even spring quite yet and the storms were getting so intense. It made her more thankful that he had asked, looking down at his phone with him and then looking back up into his eyes, more reassurances making her more calm and going to answer him ---
The sudden electrical noise and then the room growing dark made her instinctively yelp, heart beating faster for a moment from the shock before relaxing, grip on Justin tight but then letting go completely. The squawk of penguins completely gone thanks to thunder and rain, now a much more looming presence as she watched Justin look out the window. A block wide power outage at least, not seeing a single light from where she was seated. But at least it didn’t sound like any bulbs had shattered, though worries were still in the back of her mind over if the whole place would be okay...
She looked at her phone as soon as Justin had turned his phone’s flashlight on; 55% battery life left. Enough if she conserved it right, though it wasn’t like she was going to use her phone for too much. One of the things she would use it for would be calling her mom, at least to just let her know that she was okay, going to do that once Justin stated he’d go get some candles. Just letting out a sound of agreement as he walked away, she instantly rang her mom and was relieved at getting an instant response. Kotori’s eyes tracked Justin as he walked around, the boy like a firefly amidst the dark, as she told her mother that she was alright and then her plans of spending the night with her boyfriend. After going over her own mother’s plans, which was staying in their home and offering to help the Kousakas with anything they needed should their power go out soon, they said their goodbyes and hung up as Justin lit the last candle.
And then he’s back on the couch, and she’s back to snuggling right next to him. Though now all that was on the TV was the soft reflections of candles glow. “Yup, it certainly does.” A one-note reply with a small smile. Not that she wasn’t glad for this extra time with her boyfriend, expecting conversations between them to get either extremely mushy or silly. But a loud crackling of thunder made her chest tighten with unease, almost glad for the power outage so she couldn’t see just how intense it was. She tried to sigh out the feeling, eyes focused on the little candle flames. “I hope everyone else is doing okay out there. I’d hate for anyone to be caught up in this.” She mumbled, before looking up at Justin, sighing again into a small smile, “I’m glad that we’re not though, and that we can just stay cuddled up like this for longer.” Better to look at the positives anyways, at least to not worry Justin and to maybe bring her ease back, resting her head on his shoulder once more.
