Charles Shaughnessy guest-starred as Michael in the Murphy Brown episode titled “Back to the Ball” (Season 5, Episode 15), which originally aired on January 18, 1993.

His performance was highly regarded and that the head of the network reportedly remembered Shaughnessy’s role as Murphy’s date when casting the character of Maxwell Sheffield for The Nanny, which premiered later that same year.
