My aunt went missing back ‘92. She had a episode of her disappearance on YouTube aired last night. The one who did it we already know but we need more police and publicity on this because this just was a dead case before it even happened. Does anyone know of any place I can make this more public so more people will care? A woman doesn’t just vanish from her kids and family. Pls.
A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder (A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder #1) by Holly Jackson Book Review
Excuse me while I fangirl a little bit but this book was everything I was looking for in a murder mystery! With its well-written characterisation, tangled webs of lies, intriguing murder mystery and school project-esque vibes, it was not difficult for me to quickly fall head-over-heels in love with A Good Girl's Guide To Murder.
From the very first page, I was hooked. We quickly discover the murder case about Andie Bell, a school girl who was believed to have either been missing or worse, murdered. I mean, it would've explained the suicide of her boyfriend Sal Singh who killed himself out of guilt, right? But 5 years after the case was closed, Pippa (Pip) is not so sure. She believes Sal to be innocent and is using her school project to look into the case once again.
I won't go into too much for spoiler reasons but the way the story was told was incredible. Interview after interview Pip had conducted, more clues appeared that lead her closer and closer to the potential murderer. I must say, I did have one person in mind but after reading strong lead after strong lead, I was left perplexed and enthralled. At the end, all that I could say was that nobody could see that ending coming. I was reading this at night-time and I stayed up until 1:30am because I honestly couldn't put the book down!
It wasn't just the murder mystery though, the characters were amazing and they actually were well-rounded. Ravi just wanted to clear his brother's name, Pip wanted to prove Sal innocent, Cara was still feeling down after her mother's death years ago, Naomi was going to therapy to deal with her anxiety and depression and Nat Da Silva was dealing with the repercussions of Andie Bell and her life at school. Everyone had good reasons to kill Andie (if she was indeed murdered) but at the same time you felt like you had an emotional connection to these characters and you didn't want any one of them to be the murderer. All in all, I absolutely loved this book and would recommend it to everyone! ACTUAL RATING: 4.8 STARS
