The Muhly grass in our front yard is beginning to feather out, as it does each year as autumn arrives, the tips iridescent in the morning light, like peacock feathers at first, then becoming more fluffy so the feathers look almost like puffs of cotton. Along with the abstract patterns the grasses make on our front path, they add color and texture to our yard. Sometimes we’ll see a rabbit dash beneath the grass. Or a snake seeking shelter. Or wasps building a nest on the underside of the grass.
