Hey, look at me, continuing Muffinskirted (Masterpost) without a months-long delay!
The trap hallway is finally complete. And just in time for...
Autumn. Actually a fairly harmless season, really. But it means another caravan is coming soon, which should allow us to refill on logs, while getting the word out there about our (although far from incredible) wealth.
...Not so harmless, then. It hasn't even been a day!
Thankfully, though, it appears to be mostly just the same fairly frail necro experiments. But there is one zombie, and he scares me.
Thankfully he's only slightly better equipped than his companions, and, in fact, possibly worse off due to the lack of any clothes.
And since it's Autumn, we can't afford to shut the gates and wait. So, we simply have to stand our ground, while the civilians pray for our victory.
I'll be honest, these guys just kinda look like they're wandering. Though, the zombie appears to at least be headed vaguely towards us, away from the experiment pack.
Okay, yeah, he's definitely headed over. Although, very slow and lumberingly. Also I didn't know we had wild boars, but they certainly seem terrified of the fella. I don't blame 'em.
Wait he's just chasing the boars. Makes sense, as I recall zombies being rather undiscerning in their targeting.
The vile creatures of the night have not moved from their little camp in the northwest. They seem rather uninterested in actually attacking us, or they're waiting in ambush. They must know how outmatched they are.
I don't think this guy's ever gonna stop chasing these boars around enough to wander in. And even if he did, I'm not sure it'd be before the caravan showed up. I think at a time like this, we have to take offensive action!
Let's send that scourge back into his grave.
A very short fight. Two strikes and it is decided. The rest of the combat log is just the vile thing being quickly brutalized while flailing in vain at our shields, until eventually:
Good work by Kogan Splatteredbronze. The fiend never stood a chance.
The remaining creatures still seem uninterested in us, but we cannot risk the caravan being assaulted.
A dangerous fight it will be, but I have faith. We have faith. If this goes badly... Well, to put it simply, we're cooked like a ☼plump helmet roast☼
Erush is.... Not joining us in battle, apparently. She went to go fetch things from the barracks instead. Armok knows only what. So the other two will have to fight without her.
For Id, the fight goes well. She escapes with naught but a couple of bruises from deflecting a crossbow bolt with her gauntlet-clad hand. Badass as always, Id.
For Kogan, however... Well, she also fights incredibly for half the fight. But... Her foes are simply so strong.
Even a properly deflected hit can have severe consequences, for someone who is not on Id's level. Right about now, we're wishing we got on the whole soap project a month or two sooner.
Then, a potentially more costly mistake.
We must hope this poison doesn't too badly hurt dwarfkind. Depending on the severity, this may be her grave.
Another tough hit. The armor does little against such brute force. To put it in her own words:
It really isn't Kogan's day.
But there is some hope:
Eventually, between her desperate, powerful punches, and Id's incredible badassery, the enemies fall before Kogan can take any more injuries. The enemies have fallen, and we can go back to life as usual.
While that was going on, we started the quarry bush farm. Which, yet again, shall be where this ends.
