With SH1 closed, we headed along SH4 and 47. The Makatote Viaduct looked neat. With Mt Ruapehu hiding before, we weren't holding much hope in seeing the volcanoes. Then they started to emerge. Managed to grab some nice shots of Mt Ruapehu, Mt Ngauruhoe, and Mt Tongariro. No eruptions, but still amazing to look at.

Huka Falls in New Zealand is simply incredible. The clarity of the water is mind boggling, especially when coming from South Africa. The water coming off the mountains (Mt Ngauruhoe which Mount Mordor of Lord of the Rings was based on and some of it filmed) feeds directly into Lake Taupo and then to Huka Falls. Seeing the sheer volume of water and the clarity is inspirational and triggers a hope that Africa can start to take it's massive soil erosion issues more seriously. This water fall may not be as large as many of the world's Waterfalls but it is no less spectacular.
