Hi, friends, yesterday for the drawing plan 63, we went to Mt Marcy to hike super early in the morning. Also, we had to wake up around 4 AM to get up to see the sunrise. No, we had to get the parking lot because it fills up fast. When we arrived, it was still dark and cold. We turned on our headlamps and started on the trailhead. Anyhow, lub dub, waking up early for the trek, is a tremendous challenge for drawing plan 63.
Throughout the drawing plan 63, my biggest complaint about Mt Marcy is going downhill. It’s mostly rock scramble every turn you take. It wasn’t until I started playing the harmonica that I figured how to skip on top of the rocks. It’s dangerous to do it, but it saved me my knees and blisters. However, not a complaint, but try to wear thicker boots because the hike is wet and muddy. Most of us don’t like to get dirty, so we tried our best to avoid swimming in mud. In the end, going downhill is rigid, and staying focused is critical, so lets la mumble to the next segment, the drawing plan 63.

Hi, friends, for the drawing plan 63, I wrote about waking up early to start our hike, then stopping locations, learned lessons and goals.
Some belated photos of last season’s final backpacking hike. Veteran’s Day hike up Mt Marcy, the tallest peak in New York state. Above the tree line in an ‘alpine-arctic’ biome, we were not quite correctly equipped, but soldiered through. Mt Marcy in the first picture, us part way up in the second, breakfast in the morning, at the summit at sundown.
It got down to a balmy -14 C (or 7 F if you are old-fashioned) in our 3-season tent. This was before most of the snowfall starts to hit the Adirondacks. We are going out again with proper winter gear in mid-Feb, so I’ll drop some photos. My grad school roommate (physicist), known as Hammer, is the one taking photos with the glasses and green colors. The North Face wearer with d'artagnan’s facial decoration is Dagger (ex-Marine, photographer in NYC, photoshop expert), and I’m the one with the yellow hat and red beard, known in this group as Anvil (but still Brandoch to all of you). As you can guess, this is also the group that I do all the blacksmithing and bladesmithing when we can. Have I put up knives I’ve made on here? If you do want expensive custom work, let any of us know. Kitchen knives and folders are the specialty around here. And camping knives :)
Don’t fret though, we got a proper tent much better crampons than the trail micros we all had, and some other odds and ends; so, we will be fine next month. :)
2016 mt. Marcy hike, the sight was amazing even if it wasn’t the sunniest of days , life is everywhere!
