Today during English class we are currently learning about humor. Satire is a type of humor that is used but can be extremely dark at times. For those who do not know what satire is, it's basically humor that makes fun and mocks society and/or politics. Today's activity, our teacher had us read a story/article from a well known site called "theONION" about a soldier coming home from Afghanistan called "So, How Was Afghanistan?". I understand that she had told us that we should not be offended by any of this due to it being satire. I could not stand this article at all. Of all the things you chose for us to read, why this? It was utterly sickening to know she was making a mockery of soldiers who fight for our freedom and this is coming from someone like me who is not all that patriotic.. The two parts that hit me the most were these.

Oh, speaking of which, that reminds me! Your friend Bill who went with you to Afghanistan—is he still over there? You guys left at the same time, so silly me, I thought you'd be coming back together, too. Last I heard from his family, they had just received this really neat folded American flag souvenir that they keep on their mantel.

Did you bring home any cool trinkets? With a trip as special as Afghanistan, I guess you probably have unique memories that will stay with you for the rest of your life, don't you? That's really, really neat.
