Even in her secluded palace she’d heard of the all-powerful North Wind. For the strength of her magic, the nature of his abilities all but dwarfed hers – only recently was she able to expand her influence to include her entire kingdom, a small bubble of her own wild storm – and she had come to respect, albeit grudgingly, the sheer power of Boreas Frostheart.

The flight to the old howler’s castle was a pleasant one, with plentiful snow flurries and breathtaking views to occupy her thoughts. She was concerned, to say the least, on many fronts; her own powers aside, she doubted he would so much as give her the time of day, especially when few people had ever encountered the old man on more than one occasion. Supposedly only his servants (not to mention his rumored bastard children) ever spoke to him regularly; perhaps she would catch him in a particularly charitable mood?

“Really, Mr. North, I can’t thank you enough,” Snow conceded to her company, eyes casting from her children to their grandfather as she continued her way along the narrow dirt road. “I wouldn’t have had any idea how to teach them control like that.”

Indeed, where the cubs’ powers were concerned, it was the only thing – or, perhaps, one of few things – that could make her feel inadequate as a mother, but she knew she couldn’t be perfect at everything. It was impossible, even for a Fable.

The man was enough to unsettle him, he’d concede at least that much. He exuded arrogance, talked in haughty patrician tones, simply carried himself as if he thought himself the better of anyone and everyone in the room, and it was enough to dislike him instantly.

It was funny coming from him, the North Wind. The gaffer wolf had a bad run-in while trying to get to try to kill his progenitor once more, resulting in more wounds that he had hoped to.
