This salt obtains its natural color and smoky flavor from lava and activated coconut shell charcoal. It is most well known for its antioxidant properties and enhanced digestive health benefits.
In TCM, the salty flavors and the colors Black / Dark Blue are associated with the Kidneys and Urinary Bladder. In western medecine, salts are also related to electrolyte balance, filtration, hydration, mineral content, blood pressure and it also assists in the ion exchange that jolts and pumps the heart.
Most often hypertension (aka high blood pressure) can be a result of dehydration. Water (hydrogen and oygen) and Calcium either bind to sodium. But regardless of how much water a person drinks, a system overrun by sugar is still intoxicated by sugar which blocks hyrdogen bonds. Sodium is usually partnered with potassium which has an affinity for magnesium which relaxes (or counteracts) muscle contraction caused by calcium (muscle and nerve slide filament) release.
As the Standard American Diet is composed of more synthetic sugar additives and iodine stripped sodiums, people often diagnosed with hypertension will stop taking in salts and begin to consume more sugar by default (high fructose corn syrup) which is in most processed foods (read the labels). From my perspective and in treating through TCM diet therapy, herbs and acupressure, I’ve helped clients lower their pressure by adjusting the tyoe of salt they took, namely table salt which is total crap! After modifying the salt, I slowly ween them off of processed sugars, and combine Qi Gong and Tai Chi exercises to parasympathetically stimulate the metabolic system and calm the mind from the withdraws of sugar with slow movemets and breathing. The Sympathetic nervous system is sensitive to Sugar which excites and triggers the kidney secretions of adrenaline and the stress hormone cortisol. Sugar crystals also tear the interior of blood vessels and the filtration of the kidneys.
