Hello! I don't know if you've ever answered this, but do you have your headcanons about how jily looks? If they change for you, looks-wise from story to story, or they're pretty much similar. Of course, we know their signature features, but still, they manifest so differently for everyone. It's just that in the last couple of chapters of trn they both heard from many other people (and from each other, of course) how fit they look and i suppose I got curious and had to ask how you imagine them. And how important for your process is it to imagine their (or other characters') appearance or style, if at all? I'm enjoying reading trn so much and just living for new updates!! hi!! what a fun question. sorry it's taken me a bit to reply, I just knew I was going to ramble and needed a dedicated minute to answer lol. going to put it under the read more for people who don't care!
First off I will preface by saying that after 20+ years with a (minor) mwpp obsession, I have never found face claims or artwork that is 100% how I envision them. But! I do have my little hcs: Lily has long messy wavy hair by default and loves to do more dedicated curls (esp since J loves it), she is on the shorter side (160ish cm), nice (really nice if you ask J) curves, freckles on her face. I always picture James with square glasses (think black Buddy Holly-esque), taller than he is in canon (sorry, he gets to be 190cm bc mr mpp is), always rolling up his sleeves, crooked (smile, glasses, ties, etc), mostly clean shaven (except in one no longer published story where he was almost always scruffy), usually a runner so he's pretty lean/fit. I don't typical deviate from this much by story but sometimes there will be some changes depending on the story.
As far as style I am SUPER bad when it comes to fashion/clothing. it's just not a priority/interest in my life so it's a challenge for me to think about character outfits. I've made an effort to get better at this and to have fun with it when it fits into their personalities—like TRN in particular, James pushes the envelop wearing casual clothes to work some days, Lily wears sexier clothes for her reckless bar nights compared to what she wears normally sort of deal.
When it comes to other people's attraction to them, I fear two things are at play with TRN -- one, this is a romance story so they gotta be hot. Hotter than they were ever in canon. and two, everyone had to think so because it not only allowed me to create those fun love square moments where others were talking them up and they thought things like "no way is Lily hotter than Red" (which I found fun to write!), but it gave me the chance to pique their interests/attraction in someone they'd never seen a pic of before. Sure the chatting compatibility mattered! but also hearing damn this person is hot drills into the subconscious a bit, which I needed to happen for the love square progression.
so I guess the tldr version of it is: they're hot because I am but a simple romance writer and even hotter in TRN bc they had to be crazy into each other in order to ignore basic sanitary measures and hook up by public toilets.

a few years ago on my old mpp blog, I received an anon message where the person had Zayn Malik as a fancast for Sirius Black and my reply was that I had no idea who that guy was lmao. now that I have caught up with some parts of 2010s pop culture (including 1D) I realize how insane that answer must've sounded. I still don't see Zayn as Sirius but anon if you are out there, just wanted to let you know I occasionally think about your msg and grimace about how crazy my response was at the time lol
