just because i don't say i'm disabled in the OP doesn't mean i'm not, alright? i have asbergers and cerebral palsy. do not assume i'm abled when i'm not.
okay, fine.
that doesnāt mean everyone else wants to be cured, or that curing is the solution to ableism. the issue is still there whether you're disabled or not.
and frankly, iāve heard abled people express that thought a LOT. so it was a natural assumption - just like iām more likely to assume sexists are men, iām more likely to assume ableists are abled.
and frankly there was just so much wrong with that post like⦠ā(not getting cured) is just diversity for diversities sakeā waaat? Itās not a decision a person makes based on the resources available; itās just āfor diversityās sakeā?
"thereās no thing wrong with being mentally "normal"" no one is saying that. people do say thereās stuff wrong with being neuroatypical or mentally ill tho.
it āNeedsā to be cured?
anti depressants cure depression, not just treat it?
Iām not the real me for having a disorder?
tbh you being disabled doesnāt make the post any less reprehensible. Like, donāt throw other disabled people under a bus. If YOU want a cure for YOURSELF (not a family member; itās the family memberās decision whether they want a cure or not) fine, but donāt yell at other people or act like weāre wrong for either not wanting to change or just freaking not having the resources (b/c they donāt exist). We can be proud of our differences at the same time as not wanting to ditch them, at the same time as wanting to ditch them, whatever.
the overall post was so condemning over such a large swath of disabled people
