Okay, time for Part Two of the Las Vegas trip. This time, my family went out to the Valley of Fire. I'm telling you now, you are not ready for the beauty this place holds. A couple of neat things to know, there's three different stones that are very visable in the park. Aztec Sandstone is my favorite. Also, we went down the trail called "The Mouse Trail" which is where the petroglyphs are easiest to see. These are guest-a-mated to be around 5,000 years old. They're etched into the rock through what is called ''desert varnish/patina" Wild, no? Also the holes in the rock face are carved by both water and wind. The little tiny holes are likely water, the larger ones are wind. This first one is funny in that there were no rocks below the sign when we started the trail. When we came back. . . . but enjoy!
I have a ton more but I won't bore you. it's different when you've been there and who wants to look at photos of someone's vacation trip forever? No one. Definitely going back. The trails are really cool in that they're divided and most are less than a mile one way. The Mouse Trail was really easy and while it was mainly sand there were places you could scrabble up and clamber about on that were stone. Next time, I'm going to try the Rainbow trail which has more colors to see apparently :D I did see signs of animals (scrat, bedding) but none out in the open.
