so the timing was perfect for @kogarashi-art to ask folks to share their in-progress portions of their work, because tonight was a night for art practice for me. and you know what that looks like, as someone who is still learning?

so this is every layer turned on in my practice canvas for tonight, lol. it's my warm-ups, my facial feature exploration, my scribbles over a reference photo, my attempt at tracing, and then my post-trace effort to see what a stylized version would look like. that's this:

and even then, this is still nowhere near refined. this is still a super rough sketch, an attempt at getting the bare bones of an idea down. but you know what makes me happy? this is already a lot more than i was able to do last year. last year i didn't draw a single thing. this year, i'm learning.

so. like i was challenged to do, i now challenge you:

Let's make this a tag challenge. I dare you to show me the "messy middle" of something of yours. It doesn't have to be art. Show me a shot of your fiction rough draft. Show me your cake batter before it's mixed. Show me the pieces of that sewing project before it's fully assembled (or show me your raw seams on the inside). Show me the tangled threads on the back of your latest cross-stitch project. Show me all the clips dumped into the media pool of your video edit.
