Anyone curious what I do for a living/have been doing lately?
No?
Well I'm going to show you anyway.
Technically this is about a month old and I've already moved on to bigger and well.. more things I guess, but it still shows you what I've been up to! Here are some tips about how to be successful in making your own business. My favourite tip: Fire Bad Clients
I've had a few of them and once I learned to just refuse work and put my foot down I was much happier for it.
This year's opener from eCamp - More Or Less.
A commercial I made is going to be on TV! This is not a drill! ON TV!
Whoo! *dances around*
Final Project:
Answer the following questions on your blog post: 1. Why did you choose the sound(s) you have for your specific credits/trailer?
The sound comes from a clip i made in my electronic music class. I chose it because I wanted something simple playing in the background that was somewhat reflective. For me, when I watch the video or recall the events I still have unresolved feelings and some ambivalence towards the situation. Perhaps the music doesnt work though 2. What is the strongest element of your promo?
I think the strongest element of the promo is how it isnt directly upfront about what you are about to see. The trailer leads the viewer chronologically to the event with visuals and audio that hints at what the documentary is about. 3. How did you use abstraction in your promo?
I used abstraction for the title sequence and used it as a light backdrop for the text frames. The beginning and ending of the trailer include a letter my brother wrote to me with bokeh light footage over top. 4. Was was your font selection, color, size and why?
I used a sans-sarif font that was white and relatively small. Maybe, 40 pt? I thought it was fitting for the documentary. I wanted the text to be clean and deliver what was being said in a neat fashion. 5. What’s your native resolution and what’s your compressed resolution
compressed: 1080p
uncompressed: 720 x 1280
Side note: the video text plays a little faster online than it does on final cut for some reason..

Motionography Homework: Opening Sequence Analysis
Skyfall opening sequence
Discuss the choice of typeface.
The sequence uses a sans-sarif typeface that is simple and consistent. There is more emphasis on the visuals so the credits and text does not attract too much attention
Discuss the use of sound (what is it and why?)
The song is called Skyfall by Adele and it was made for this film. In the background of the song is the classic James Bond theme song that also enhances the connection between the sound and video.
Discuss how the sound functions in conjunction with the images (does it mimic the pacing of the movement in the frame or the editing? Is it sync sound that we also see? Does the music seem to have a different approach to sound/image?)
Scenes break away into new ones with each repeat of the chorus which talks about falling, separating, etc. and it unifies both the song and the images
Discuss how the video trailer builds suspense or anticipation.
The trailer builds suspense and anticipation with its use of recycling scenes into future scenes so seamlessly in creative ways. Also, it creates an eery mood with the images of skulls, grave markers, daggers, etc.
Discuss if/how abstract imagery was used.
The trailer is latent with abstraction that helps to make smoother transitions between totally different scenes.
Discuss how long it is and why this is or isn’t effective.
The trailer is almost 4 minutes long but it is still effective because it keeps the viewer engaged. Rather than just creating one abstraction throughout the credits, the trailer instead leads the viewer through established scenes that transition into the next seamlessly
