Abyssal Mermaid OC — Melanie
Melanie was transported to Candle Cove in an attempt to escape an abyssal sea serpent after wandering too far from the kingdom out of curiosity.
Curious and confused about this newfound dimension, she luckily was aided by a mysterious pirate crew ran by, to her surprise, all merpeople disguised as humans. They all wore rings that shined a bright red color allowing them to transform from human to merperson which they used as a tactic during their battles to escape in and out of water, if needed.
In the end, Melanie decided to join the crew in promise to get her home. Since she is a light aligned user, she was the only one among the crew that didn’t need a ring to transform.
Just a lil sneak peak at a candle cove fanfic I’m working on involving the Laughingstock Crew. I’ve designed Melanie as a character more fitting for a novel rather than a puppet in the actual show. I’ve had her in mind for a while and I was so happy to have gotten her story and design down a bit more.
Abyssal mermaids aren’t an official thing in the wiki but I thought it would be interesting if they were. I imagine they’d be more based on fish from the deepest and darkest part of the ocean or nocturnal ones since the abyssal kingdom is mainly darkness. Also I imagine some would glow or be somewhat translucent.

A Glimpse of What’s to Come…
I’ve had this idea brewing in my mind for a good day or two, I’m happy it came to fruition and turned out wonderfully 😭
It’s hard to believe the Skin-Taker as we know it used to be such a curious fellow that simply wanted to see more of the world but was sadly driven to insanity, or perhaps he had always had much of a darker side to him? Just managed to keep it at bay.
I’ve been pondering on Thade and his past as well as The Tarantula Crew lately. I must admit I didn’t care for them all that much until I really started to dive deep into the lore and have meaningful discussions with a good friend of mine, @kelpieseas3494 🙂↕️✨ who also helped me develop my OC Lenore. The novels on the candle cove wiki are so underrated and have so much potential for more world-building.
