What are your tsams rants, hot takes and unpopular opinions?? Im kinda getting tired of the show so im asking around π
Dont think i forgot about you... :)
I'm flattered! I like to think I'm earning my infamous moniker in my current fandom. [This goes here- https://www.tumblr.com/blog/emhm] Not famous, but hopefully known. But I can't really talk about TSAMS in a vacuum because I'm actively remedying all the things that annoy me about canon inside of my sprawling, thrice-weekly fanfic. I'm actually okay with the canon not being great because a story that's too good has no room for fanfic. You must have bullshit to grow a good fandom! And I'm just as happy to complain with people as to chat about good things. Fandom is a good way to make friends as an adult. And I acknowledge that what I do different does not work in a mostly visual format. [Also I know how constrained YouTube is as far as what's allowed to be shown or done.] I like to focus on characters internal thoughts and motivations [which just isn't the same as a monologue] and chew on the scenery a bit. Plus the explicit sex, of course.
My biggest problem with TSAMS is actually a technical issue. The sound balance has gotten worse and worse this past year. It doesn't happen with any of the other channels either. My laptop speakers are not that loud and even with them at full volume; some characters I really have to strain to hear their dialogue. I was perfectly fine with both Dark Sun and Ruin dying because I COULD NEVER FUCKING MAKE OUT WHAT THEY WERE SAYING. It was intensely frustrating and made me feel like I was going deaf. As far as character takes - I really hate the astrals. They are OP poison for storytelling and trying to make them relatable/fallible just made it worse. I did not like Lunar's super special anime protag arc and I was happy he got fired. I'm pissed that Lord Eclipse was killed. [Ours now bitches] And Kc [He also belongs to the fandom now.] I like Nebula okay, but her getting downgraded to background girlfriend is uhhhhhhhh :( I'm REALLY mad that they tried to erase MASM by taking all the episodes down and that we had to bitch to get them back up. I'm an archivist, I hate to see anything become lost media. I was sad that MASM got cancelled full stop because that was fun and I was really enjoying that channel. I liked Fem nights but they should have started over with a fresh channel instead of taking one over. I was also sad to see that one cancelled because I liked that channel too! I was very fond of EAPS, but it did have a natural story wind down and end, so that's okay. I think it's very funny that I started EMHM while Eclipse was dead and there was no reason to think he'd ever come back, let alone get a redemption arc. I hate Monty, but everyone already knows that. I really hate that they keep making Terra/Earth look more and more like a damn Barbie doll. President Earth's model is just bad. Making my own versions of Earth lovely fat ladies is in direct response to this. [Plus the one dude Earth; Strata who is very cheerful fat hippie guy.] At this point I prefer LAES Earth to Terra. I like her weird dynamic with Harvest. Obviously I'm bitter that they can't just play random games anymore. Some of my favorite episodes were just cheap games. Sun and Moon "Burn down a McDonald's" "Move to Ohio" "Escape Skibidi.exe" "Play Killer in Purple 2" I love all of those so much. Lunar and Eclipse playing "The Fridge is Red" is also a favorite. And Lunar's bad Minecraft texture pack is so fucking funny. BUT THINGS THAT MAKE ME PISSED - New Moon x Solar is not incest, and if you think that- block me. It's dumb and I'm sick of it. Everyone I've ever dated was a friend first and some of them a roommate first. Your relationship to people CAN CHANGE. I hate Blue and that stupid worm guy, they're not funny. Molten taking Sun's rays was also NOT FUNNY. If one of my housemates did that to me, I would legit probably move out because I wouldn't feel safe around them anymore. I feel Nexus was railroaded into villainy and killed off because Old Moon had more angst baggage and mean=funny/more clicks on YouTube apparently. I like LAES Dazzle. I don't care for TSAMS Dazzle. TJ should not have existed let alone be adopted. And this is probably my hottest take- a lot of the canon celestial families problems are their own damn fault because of how quick they are to make new enemies by mistreating people right off the bat. My ideal retirement for V4 Eclipse was that he should move in across the street or next door to the family but refuse to be involved in any of their shit. I imagine him just having a coffee at a front window while they're having a fight with intergalactic bounty hunters on their lawn or something. They rejected him over and over when he was more then capable of helping them. He deserves to have his peace without their nonsense.
[I typed on the open tab so long that when I actually tried to post it, the posting failed because there was too much text. I had to cut the response, post it and then edit the rest back on.]
The one where Curly gets fried
So just finished The Last Of Us Show and it was fine but like that's it. It was fine. I gotta say I'm probably suffering from a bit of the classic "Books better than the movie" except obviously the games better than the series. And I kinda knew I would feel that way, the game just had the advantage of A) Being an incredibly immersive and unique form to tell the story and B) I played it first so this is always gonna be compared. BUT also I do think the show has some flaws for me personally.
To start I genuinely don't think I'd have liked this show at all if I HADN'T played the game. Zombie shows just aren't my thing, I have low attention span so in a game thats a mix of story and playing it keeps me invested. But in a show like this it's a weird mix of some cool stuff happening and then stuff I find boring that goes on way too long. And I don't mean I need it be all action, boring action is also bad but like so much is weird explantion moments and backstory that I found threw the whole pace off. The pacing in general was WEIRD.
I know a lotta people probably find episode 3 and 7 the best but for me I just found them.. oddly placed. 7 in particular. 3 is cute as hell yeah but also just felt uneeded at that point like we're barely introduced to our main duo and then woosh here's some other guys. I actually think this should have been a 20 episode show. Have more depth added and more scenes of the bleakness of this world, have them find the after effects of Bill and Frank and then LATER you can maybe have a radio play that song or Joel open up a bit about Bill or some other convoluted reason so flash back to their story. Use it bring a reminder that life can still have great meaning and hope in the apocalypse. A break in the hopelessness of it all but having it at episode 3?? It genuinely took me out of post apocalypse atmosphere. Which when moments of brevity do happen they don't feel earned.
Episode 7... sorry but again if it was a longer show put it in there, after Ellie opens up to Joel about her past for example. Flash back. But in the show it was bloody frustrating. I was like omg I don't care about this right now because Joel has been injured! God knows how people who only say the show felt I'd have been pissed.
Personally my favourite episode was number 5. It felt claustrophobic, high stakes, genuine threat and we are rooting for all those kids to make it out alive even though we know that ain't gonna happen. And I don't mean because of having played the game cause even in that you just know those kid's won't make it. It's a harsh world and it's clearly a 2 man type of story sadly. The real terror and sadness felt was fantastic tbh, and the little moments of hope seeing them play and bond before having it all ripped away? That was brilliant. The truck going under? The creepy as hell infected child killing Kathleen? Kathleen her awful bitchy self?? All great. Loved it. So so so let down the show didn't keep those high moments for me personally.
Now... I'll say it Joel and Ellie in the show? Yeah it's fine. Joel's pretty cute, Ellies a firece gal. But their relationship didn't feel rewarding. Again maybe if it was longer the Joel arc would have felt better but the show just didn't cut it for me. Joel was too nice to begin with and it felt more like they became friends early on than father and daughter. Which happened way too fast for my liking, then when the episode 9 happened he DID feel more fatherly but I got whiplash because it felt outta nowhere. I think they're great actors but they only have the script to work with and I found it rushed.
Honestly the whole show felt too low stakes and not bleak enough. The game feels bleak and scary but that's what makes the wonder and warmth of those quiet hopeful moments truly wonderful. The show world felt like post apocalypse on easy mode. Even the moment's that were meant to showcase how horrible humanity can be e.g. the cannibal preacher didn't feel like it went hard enough. The biggest comparison to what I hoped to get with this show is the movie Snowpiercer. (With a slowburn father daughter relationship thrown in). I hoped for real threat, a bleak world, interesting characters, darkness of humanity shown AND those few examples of light in the darkness that humanity's not all bad. BUT at the end of day for sure fuck humanity if it comes at the cost of your new daughter. I mean obvs they followed the ending pretty spot on so I did get that bit at least. Although it did make the Ellie confession of what happened with Riley feel incredibly hollow considering we had already see it all happen. The cast did a good job it just didn't feel half as rewarding sadly.
I want everyone's opinions on the Tim Burton Alice movies, honest opinions

personal thoughts about vol 2 specifically: (also i would like to preface this by saying the world of stranger things and its premise i admire completely but i think its just clear they were running dry this season)
-entirely predictable, from every dialogue βwowβ moment to the *woo* big twist at the end. it was exhausting to be right about it.
-after the wonderful hype from all the previous episodes, it did not seem to fit in at all
-the coming together at the end felt sloppy (again, my opinion. i get after all the circumstances and distance the whole gang getting back together wasnt gonna be exactly smooth sailing, but still)
-i was expecting a Very cool psychic 1v1 battle. like itching to see 001 and 011 have a fuckin standoff that was matched. but they just kept throwing eachother. getting back up. throwing eachother. very dull.
-im glad they gave Slightly more time to will. i think his inner turmoil and fear about expressing his queerness is accurate. but they also did nothing else with his character. or mikes. like some of the character dev was so lacking to the point where i honestly did not give a shit abt them.
-what happened to the music thing in this last episode. i am just curious!! like they did nothing else with that. i dont know.
, fuck eddies death??? what. i just have no other words for it. very good character just thrown out the window for emotion points!! it worked, i cried, and now im quite disturbed with how much i disliked the episode.
as far as pairings go- i have to say *and this is not my queer ass impeding on anything* steddie only made logical sense. it really would have worked perfectly! especially because we figured out this whole jonathon nancy steve shit seasons ago.
genuinely there is SO much potential for fun exploration of disability in transformers and I feel like it's just... not there. what kind of unique disabilities pop up in cybertronians? what challenges do they face treating these disabilities compared to our own? how about advantages? but instead we just get the 64th #cute art of someone "fixing" bumblebee because his life was soooo miserable being disabled or some shit like knock it off
anyway steve fucked up the timeline which is why peter was erased from existence so tony will be creating some dimension-traveling-machine from beyond the grave to get him back and bam thereβs avengers 5: give us fucking peter parker back.
