Hi! I'm Moriche. I write fic, I draw things, and sometimes I ramble. I'm from the Netherlands, in my thirties, married, mom to a toddler, and I've got a background in medieval western-european history. I love dabbling in art. I'm aspiring artist, and I do both traditional work and digital stuff. I'm also slowly trying to study things like art fundamentals, but pesky things like Real Life tend to get in the way. Writing's my jam as well. I'm currently working on an epic Morrowind longfic called Fear in a Handful of Dust, and it is my pride and joy. I haven't gotten in many words recently, but I reworked a scene I'd written earlier into something I like much more. Here's Veryn and Caius talking about the Urshilaku and the forgotten prophecies they're looking for.

“She allowed me to write it down, so I made you a copy. A pretty long title: The Seven Visions of the Seven Trials of the Incarnate.” He repeated it in Velothis, switching near automatically. “She tested me against them, and then told me her findings were inconclusive.” “Inconclusive?” Caius let out that bark of his, half laugh, half scoff. “You went up north on your own, all for nothing?” Veryn’s fingers trembled, rustling the parchment he held, frustration and exhaustion driving him near the point of tears. He stared at the grooves in the tabletop, counting them one by one, peering at the gunk they’d collected over the years. Food, candle wax, beer and wine, blood and sweat and skin, moon sugar, skooma - gods might know what else. The longer he stared, the more his sight blurred, aided by the dull ache that pulsed behind his temples. Despite his mask, he’d been out in the ash for too long, the finest of particles that made it through the filters scouring his eyes and throat. “The Wise Woman brought up the Dissident Priests.” Sharn broke the silence that had gone on for too long, pulling him back into the present. “The Ashlanders have lost many of their own prophecies, possibly on purpose. If Veryn wants to prove himself to them, he’ll have to find the priests and the words they’ve hidden.” “It’s a trap. A clever one.” Caius clenched his jaw, breathing out heavily. “She expects the Empire to fake the those records. I would get you some false prophecies, you would bring them to her, and then it turns out these Urshilaku have a way of verifying them. They get to expose you as a fake, they kill you, and all is well for them.”

Aaah thank you for the question <3 As usual I'll answer for Veryn.

He gets mean when he's very angry. His anger takes over in a single-minded way, where he stops considering consequences. He crafts his words like daggers, aiming to hurt and wound - in short, he can be an outright asshole.

The main thing that counts for him at that point is that he wants to win, if not outright dominate. (Huh. Maybe there's more to that "dragonborn and far-star-marked" than he knows at this point ;) ) At the current point my fic is at, this has led to a very fraught relationship with Caius Cosades once Veryn found out that the Empire wanted him to be Nerevarine and nobody told him until he was in too deep.

“-ryn? Please, can we talk?” Caius’ voice pierced through his drifting thoughts, sounding kind and worried. Veryn glanced up at him balefully. Behind the Spymaster — Veryn refused to think of him as a mentor anymore — Sharn leaned against the doorframe, her arms crossed, clearly unhappy with Caius. “Only if you’re sober,” Veryn snapped.

On the flipside, the stubbornness of his anger has earned him a begrudging respect from Elenwen. She threw him off a cliff so he'd learn to fly, and he blew up at her. “You’re insane. Even for a Telvanni, you’re insane.” He swallowed, drawing shuddering breaths. “I don’t know if anyone has ever told you, Elenwen, but you’re a goddamn sadist.” She laughed. She’d nearly managed to fucking kill him, and she laughed. “Do you think anyone has been brave enough to tell me to my face?” No. Probably not.

Veryn grabbed his bag, glad to get to his feet as the silt strider came to a slow, lumbering stop. Strider travel might be fast, but the giant, hollowed out fleas were packed so full of cargo and passengers that it had barely left him space to move around these past few days. He lined up behind the other passengers that were filing off, Caius a few steps behind him, when the queue stalled, clogging the dock as nobody moved to go down. From Fear in a Handful of Dust

So I should probably start with the chapter that comes straight before this one, because that's "All That We See Or Seem".

In that chapter, Veryn hears from Nibani Maesa that he might be the Nerevarine, but she does not confirm it. He is left in uncertainty, while the Sixth House continues to assault his dreams. To fulfill his debt to Hassour Zainsubani, Veryn goes to the caverns of Mamaea to seartch for Zainsubani's son - and he realises that the Sixth House is waiting there for him too. He teleports out, and has a heart-to-heart with his girlfriend Sharn about how this means he will probably have to die. So the first part of it plays on Veryn seeing things that not everyone sees (the Sixth House), and then the 'seem' part on whether he's the Nerevarine or not, or only seems to be the right option. And then the followup is "Is But a Dream" and "Within a Dream". I'm currently writing the chapter, and it was initially planned as one chapter and then I realised that nope. This is too much, gotta split 'em. And "Is But A Dream" is going to dive straight into the Sixth House. The House of the False Dreamer. Veryn reluctantly tells Caius Cosades about what he found at Mamaea. Caius wants to chart the place properly before calling in the Legion, but when Veryn and Sharn accompany him back to Mamaea, the cavern collapses beneath them and swallows them up. And that's when the heartbeat of the Sixth House becomes so loud within Veryn's mind that he can no longer ignore it. The Dream becomes more and more real, and he runs deeper into the cavern, leaving Sharn behind. And then follows "Within a Dream"... We learn that there's an Ash Vampire this far beyond the Ghostgate, who has turned the caverns of Mamaea into his base and who's using them as a vantage point for the city of Ald'Ruhn. The Ash Vampire easily overpowers Veryn, who is dazed by the heartbeat and the mindfuckery of the Sixth House - and infects him with the incurable Corprus Disease. Sharn and Caius have found each other while looking for Veryn, but they arrive too late. A fight scene follows, where especially Sharn gets her time to shine and be a badass. They just about manage to down the Ash Vampire, realising they've only done so because said Ash Vampire expended a ton of his powers in getting the cavern to collapse. Now they are aware of how strong the Sixth House truly is - and the future Nerevarine has just been infected with that very same Sixth House crawling around in his blood. It's been tricky writing these chapters - there's a lot of tension between Veryn and Caius that's hard to nail - but I really enjoy where it's going so far!! And here's a little sneak-peek for "Is But A Dream"!
