Standing there in her regalia, tying the last of her beadwork to her braids, Reb looked up at Jayden, smiling at the other woman. She'd invited Jayden to help her get ready when Beth had disappeared into Henry's room to help him. The woman didn't need to be standing in the empty bar while the Standing Bears got ready for the powwow. Reb didn't need much help, but Jayden had gotten the tie on her choker for her and sat there quietly to watch as Reb got everything else on. The company was nice.

What happened was so quick that Carter scarcely had time to process. He saw a flash of color out of the corner of his eye, and then a familiar voice followed, before he spun around and stumbled headlong into his kitchen island.
