Memorial Day is the 30th of May. I refuse to let the sacrifice of those who gave their lives for the country be moved to a Monday just so that the Congressional Critturs can have a three-day weekend and the rest of us can have a huge sale on pools and lawnmowers.
My mother is right now (7:23PM EST on April 18, 2023), calling the cops to do a wellness check on my baby brother (46) because he needs psychiatric help and is suddenly off the deep end. Prayers, thoughts, whatever you’ve got, I’d appreciate them. Thank you!
St. George and St. Dymphna, pray for him!
My comadre, compadre, and their oldest four children, as well as comadre’s sister desperately need prayers. Thank you.
I say it every year, but I’d like to do it again. This isn’t Veteran’s Day. This isn’t Armed Services Day. It isn’t “International Car Sales and Barbeque Day”. None of those things is inherently bad, and if you celebrate them appropriately, then I’m glad (especially the first two in that list). It’s Memorial Day. I don’t celebrate it on “the last Monday of May” because I think that of all the Secular Holidays we have, this is the most important. So important that it deserves to be treated as sacred, whatever day of the week it falls on. It’s the day to honor and mourn those who died while serving in the military. Let me repeat that, loud and clear for those in the back. The day to honor and mourn those who died while serving in the military. Thank the veterans in your life. Honor those who are serving now. Buy a new (to you) car. Have a barbeque. Go to the beach. Enjoy your three-day-weekend. And take a moment to remember that somebody thought you were so important that your freedom to do those things was worth dying for. And they did. Pray for the dead. Honor them. Visit a cemetery, look for those who died in conflict. Those who came home in a box. For you. For me. It’s Memorial Day. Honor the fallen. Thank them, and make them proud.
