November 2015 Morecast
***This will be updating.....Ā some stuff is late and on itās way - Day Light Savings and Halloween - ya dig? ;)
Reflection:
Integration was way harder than I thought. I moved, I got sick and have still been struggling with my health. It oftentimes felt like there were too many things on the stove, too many balls in the air, and just not enough energy to go around. I knew it was going to challengingā¦.but whoa. There was so much good and bad. How was October for you?
Ā November:
November is always such an interesting month, sandwiched between Halloween and Christmas and sputtering out Thanksgiving. This interesting feeling of being full and surrounded and yet pressed upon with expectations, traditions, and the darkening season will be similarly met with this monthās vibe. The desire to break out of your binds and yet keep them close to youā¦.kinda like a cat in a box.
This monthās theme is Contraction ā that pressure and push that comes before expansion. There will be lots of testing and redefining of boundaries within our relationships with others and ourselves. It wonāt be surprising to see unlikely groups joining forces or being forced together in the kinds of environments that also test their individual and group identities. There's going to be a lot of poking, dipping toes, this sort of pushy energy that's trying to be both cautious and exploratory ā finding out where one ends and the other begins. As uncomfortable as this may feel at times, itās not intentionally aggressive, simply necessary - and it will feel familiar in an eye opening ah-ha sort of way.
Lots of visits from the past still ā and hopefully these visits will be fruitful, as youāll be seeing them from a fresh vantage point thatāll feed you some much needed epiphanies to help you move on and heal some old wounds. Itās like last monthās ideas about integration, but pushed through a funnel at hyper speed. It may make you feel a bit full and uncomfortable ā and there wonāt be a lot of space for you to release just yet - much like Turkey Day and finding yourself at a feast without being able to unbutton the top button of your pants. Ā
The past and boundaries are going to be constant themes I suspect for the next few months (planetarily speaking and also just the whole world getting smaller and being forced to redefine and relearn new ways of living together etc)....November is highlighting this in a pressurized way, especially around new approaches at relationships (family dynamics in particular around Thanksgiving will be interesting, and I am suspecting lots of waves in tradition ā hopefully of the healing/acceptance variety, though there's lots of room for lashing out and revenge also).
Revenge really wants to make a show this month. All this pushing and dredging up of the past is bound to make people cranky and prone to lashing out. Find ways to breath through it with more constructive ways of letting that shit go. Especially watch for irritation around expectations ā your own and otherās. You may also find that you need to reprioritize and replan your full plate (no matter how carefully constructed you thought it was). Those brownies youāve been craving just wonāt fit on that heaping pile of potatoes. Plan it out and pace yourself. Itās going to be a full, pushy, pressurized month. Hope youāre hungry.
Fashion & Media:
The 70s weāve been seeing still, with some interesting late 90s early 00ts - sweater dresses, long tee dresses, tall boots, docs, chokers and the like. I'm really curious to see how summer layering will play with the bold no nonsesnse staples that this November is wanting - there was so much sheerness and lace and see through bizz....and that will still want to trickle in, but I'm guessing that the big knits and solid staples may not let them. We shall seeā¦..again boundaries being pushed. Instead of playing with layers it may be more playing with patterns and textures, faux fur, wool, knit, etc....and maybe some new takes and twists on plaid. While brown is still in town , as the color that will be wanting more and more attention.
Ā My outfit for this month was actually taken last night for Halloween, but itās how I would like to play with this monthās themes and the first time Iāve felt like myself in weeks. It was less a costume and more how I want to feel and be and Iām going to push for more of that (and the baseball hat was not planned, it simply found itās way on my head and here we are).
Ā Ā For films and tv this month, you wonāt have to look far for protagonists dealing with the past and pushing against the old, there are lots of bio-pics, twists on remakes, and old fashioned revenge stories to fill even the biggest hole.
Ā Poem of the Month:
Holy fuck is there some power and pressure and yummy contractions in this monthās poem. Itās pushing me to all the feels and I fucking love it!! (**editorās note: the formatting this month is really strange and not fixable within the html. Fun.)
In the spirit of redefining boundaries, and discovering identities and the conflict of being true to one's self while still trying to be a team player -- here is a poem born of the frustration of trying to keep all those scales balanced and the anger at still being shoved into a 1950s (here's the past) housewife role while we are 65 years past that period. Ā :v
Ā Ā Ā āAll Mouthā
I like your body
but I only see your mouth
cut me into snips and snails
bully me thin without boyfriends and skinny jeans
you're not allowed in
Burnt hair
pickled skin
chemical nails dyed delightful
you'd think every day was a Hallow Eve's night
I like your body
but I only want your MOUTH
its all that counts
its a one, two woman
It can buckle my shoes -- woman
It can open the door -- woman
It can suck on sticks -- woman
I will tell them all straight:
Am I Yeezy, am I Jeezy -- Jesus, Belle, or God
I cannot be the trilogy because of parts that make me odd
"Cura te ipsum!"
No,
too sexy;
not enough, canary.
Too loud
too soft too
big too boss --
throw on another iron
watch for the steam
I'll seethe beneath your knees
Building my howl and bleeding the earth
persecuted by both genders
I'm not trans,
I'm just a woman.

Ā Artist of the Month:
Ā Ryan Edwards is such a thoughtful soul. His calm attention to detail is intense, riveting, and inspiring. Heās been working on these painstaking hand-painted cards and even constructing boxes for them. Heās taken something old and made it completely his own and now thereās an abundance of decks and cards just ready for new homes and spaces! Where will they all go?! Who will hold them in their hot little hands and what will happen next?! These things are soooo cool.
I also super love these....you get new and old, contractions, colliding, and cards - oh my!
Ryan is a designer, illustrator, and card lover in St. Louis, MO. He studies cards to understand cards to design cards to read cards. He has a partner, two Saint Bernards, and a black cat. You can find more of his stuff here: http://www.inset.cards/
Ā Recipe:
This monthās recipe comes from our wonderful kitchen witch Betsy. This here lady and this thang is simply amazeballs. Holycrapola! Dig in!:
Ā Ā Ā Ā White Bean Meatless Meatball Sub
Relationships at my house are always defined around the table. "Unlikely groups join forces in the kinds of environments that also test their individual and group identities.ā Maybe this means who is joining you at your table this month. Maybe it means what sort of food you serve. Break the mold with a white bean meatless meatball sub! These delicious and vegetarian "meatballs" come together in about 15 minutes with just a blender but will take about an hour with cooking time; leaving you more time to explore the familiar and spend more time forming relationships.Ā

Summary Game Plan:
Watch for those moments when the pressure is building. Be vigilant about your own expectations and how they push you. Itās going to be a full month contractions and constrictions (birthing pains, babies!!). It would be good to really plan things out as much as possible and strive towards even minor forms of completion on some of your To-Do lists. Those checks in the DONE box will help relieve a little of this tension and promote some nice feelings of victory too. Make a list of your expectations and see where you can maybe give less fucks ā thisāll help free up more space for the things you do give fucks for. Be gentle with yourself, the heavy pushing comes later.
Ā Questions to Ponder:
How do your expectations serve you? Are they helping or hindering? Where can you make room for the things you love? Where can you safely push for more? When do you feel like retreating, and why? What makes you feel bold? And what makes you feel small? ā¦..and of course (tis the season)ā¦.What are you grateful for?

September Reflection:
September was A LOT. The Harvest Moon was A LOT. Iāve been feeeeling it and all these changes. Oof! And with the work I also get all these gifts too. Itās been feeling a lot like Heaven and Hell with heavy evidence for both. New things abound.....and maybe next month weāll have a new reality correspondent for this section?! Woooo! (hence it being a bit brief now).
October:
Okay, so September was asking you to change some shizz, right? And if you are lucky you were able to make those changes and end some cycles ā otherwise Iām guessing the changes happened to you and it felt considerably less lucky. I know September had its bumps and even huge fucking mountains for some. Either way changes happened. Now October will be asking you to integrate those changes into your life in a meaningful way.
And thatās the theme for October ā Integrationā¦which is a bit more complicated than it sounds. This particular kind of integration does not mean simply assimilating the new things into your life all easy-peasy-lemon-squeasy. Ā No.
October will want you to interact with them in engaging and self-propelling ways. This will mean looking at your past and knowing how to use it to get you to where you want to be. Donāt get trapped in the past hanging out with old haunts. Use those spookie-ookies to make energy-filled ectoplasm for yourself. 90s Ecto-cooler for NOW would not be filled with fake shit. Weāre talkinā organic co-op local self-sustaining hoo-ha of the highest degree! Fuel up babies! And drink it in.
The objective now is to move forward. What does not support this momentum is best left to collect cobwebs and dust ā not to be forgotten ā merely deprioritized. Especially because you are going to have to get SO serious about your priorities this month. Chances are, you will be juggling so much (the past, pres, and future to name a few)!
Thereās sure to be some frantic bananas feels that could manifest in exciting ways though. Parties, social events, leads in jobs, all the projects and enticing sounding little things. Trick-or-treat, indeeeed! BUT, it aināt all Harvest feasts time. There is also some occassionally harsh feeling diligence that will be over-lording above it all....basically bears, badgers, beavers (Battlestar?) best be doing a good job with the harvest right meow, or Winter is gunna be a bitch. All those little yummies can add up and give you a real bellyache too. So for now, itās best to really keep your head screwed on.
Remember itās preparation for the future, dealing with the past in a constructive way and enjoying the ripe present and working with yourself and other people and life and the world and and andā¦
THATās what this October means by Integration. Make it work - youāve got the skills. Nows the time to not only do what you love - but also *be* what you love.
Fashion & Media:
Geologically fashion is bound to be pretty different (especially as the weather continues to get colder). But overall I suspect that bold graphic black and white, suggestions of punk, the continuation of folksy tribal, military styling with the almost constant Eighties comeback will still be on heavy rotation throughout the U.S. specifically. The mostly Seventies Summer will also start to creep into Winter as the Fall season progresses. These multiple influences will be reflecting personal style, sure ā but pay attention to how it relates to the bigger picture (where it came from and where it is going - one eye in the past, the other forward). Media-wise is of course no different and weāll see it in some flashes of intense realness and idealism, - all peppered with nostalgia being newly digested (Meaning old stuff brought up in different ways. There may also be old stuff brought up and then left out ā and there could be some backlash to compensate for the lack of integration). How will you work with those themes? Perhaps with a hat and brocade floral military jacket?
This month I have a new contributor giving her expert take on this monthās energies. She has taken all my long babbles and all her own thoughts and internal dialogues and condensed them into this kick-ass outfit and clear-cut description, just like October would want us all to do:
ā Outstanding self-achievement, awareness, betterment, control, and power.ā
Chrystal Odin working these October feels, intigrating technologies and all. Fuck Yes.
Caroline Royce is back with us with a more personal twist to last month. She was playing with an old tripod she hadnāt tried yet, the light in her office was really good, this picture was picked. I loved the idea that she was using something old to goof around with during an opportune time and something serious, a lilā moody, and mischievous came of it. Itās got some good integration going on. Perfect for this month.

Poem of the Month:
Lulu shared a dream with me ā a dream that made me literally squeal with delight, because it was so painfully perfect for Octoberās theme. She wrote a poem about it and I died. Make sure your own sensual bear beasts donāt consume yooooous, just donāt look back, right?
"I Saw A Bear" If I were a grizzly bear I'd follow you everywhere (Careful) Not to flay your tender calves or pluck your Achilles or bathe in the sweet wine aging just below your surface I'd nibble the backs of your hands like minnows twinkling stars with gasping mouths drawn to skin as babes to sin I'd let you saddle me I'd let you braid my eaves -- Just don't flee. ~Lulu Blue ©lulublue

Article of the Month:
Chris is back with another short article that is a departure from my own woo here ā AND also totally on point with this monthās theme. So if you arenāt a fan of my wild woo ā Chris has a solid dose of critical yum to cleanse your palate. The flavor of October may be thematic ā but it wonāt be boring. Hereās some more lovely layers for you, now how will you navigate yourself through it all?Ā

Now he makes kickass videos and hangs out with incredible people who get him in trouble Iām sure ā in faaar better ways and I love that and him and this project that he is now working on. Scream, Queen: My Nightmare on Elm Street is Octoberās theme in a fucking fantastic nutshell. It is so good and perfect for this it makes me want to claw my face off.

Recipe of the Month:
Check it! We have a new recipe mama ā complete with her own wise words. I hiiiighly recommend making this dish. I love the thoughtfulness and the ease! It is exactly what this month needs: speed, care, planning, nurturing, and justā¦. Here, everyone, meet Betsy and her soup:
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Curried Pumpkin Soup
"This month needs something for the harvest to honor all the work that has been done, but to nurture the now in order to prepare for the future." You've put in the work already, now reap the benefits in under 30 minutes. I like the cleansing of the curry (a nice alternative to pumpkin spice) The pumpkins and mushrooms work well with harvest and celebrate with an earthy flavor. The fresh popcorn on top keeps you enjoying it in the now. You won't be able to stop putting spoonful after spoonful in your belly. It's like a hug in a mug.
Prep time: 5 min Cook Time: 25 min
Yield: 8 Cups
Ingredients: 1/2 Pound Mushrooms, sliced (Potrabella, Crimini and Oyster are great in this) 1/2 Cup Onion, chopped 2 Tablespoons Butter 2 Tablespoons Flour (sub garbanzo flour if GF) 1 teaspoon Curry 3 Cups Stock 1 15 oz Can of Pumpkin 1 12 oz Can Evaporated Milk 1 Tablesoon Honey 1 teaspoon Salt 1/4 teaspoon Black Pepper, ground 1/4 teaspoon Nutmeg, ground 1/2 teaspoon Chili Powder *Popcorn and chives to top
Instructions:
1. Melt butter in a stockpot or dutch oven over Med/Hi heat.
2. Add Mushrooms and Onions. Sautee until onions are translucent.
3. Add Flour and Curry. Stir to coat mushroom mixture. Toast an additional 30 seconds while stirring.
4. Stir in the broth, deglazing the bottom of your pan by running your spoon along it to mix in any flavors stuck to the bottom. Bring to a boil for 2 minutes until the broth starts to thicken.
5. Add Pumpkin, Milk, Honey, Nutmeg, Chili Powder and Salt and Pepper to taste. Heat through.
6. Serve with chives on top. Finally, top with popcorn just before eating and serve the rest of your popcorn as the side.
Hug in a mug...indeed!!! <3
Summary Game Plan:
There is going to be a lot. You will need to make sure to pace yourself and observe not only your suroundings but also what is going on inside yourself.
Questions to Ponder:
What tends to happen when you get busy? What habits prevent you from doing as much as youād like to? What things are you excited about integrating - and what not? What habits in September would you like to continue - or to stop? What people in you life help you? How are you at prioritizing?
