you've talked about this a lot, but gallavich in 11x3 really upset me. i've read many metas to try deal, but i'm struggling. you & others have tried to explain the plausibility of it or rationalize the merit of it, but to me it's just like why was this necessary for their story this late in the game, after a decade? how do any fans feel ok about this story, or like it even, when it's just SO unnecessary to tell. why did THESE characters need to tell THIS message? there's better stories to tell!
hope my asks don't bother you, but i'm the "unnecessary" person who just messaged. just wanted to explain what i mean further. that just because this could theoretically happen in life i guess, in what world is gallavich's messy rhetoric in 11x3 good tv. people take dumps in real life too, yet i hate whenever they show us that onscreen. real life and tv aren't the same thing. of all the stories to tell in the last season, why waste a whole ep on pointless this instead of some necessary drama
Hey! Sorry this has taken me a few days. Some asks, I like to think about. It is 100%, absolutely not that you are bothering me. Honestly really enjoy these and I like thinking about the stuff people ask about.Ā
First of all, I feel for everyone who found 11x03 super upsetting. Iām in the middle on that one. I rarely enjoy the other parts of the episode as much as I do the Gallavich portion, but this time I liked the Frank part best. Fucking Frank.Ā
The Gallavich portion was the weakest part of me and I donāt think thatās just because Iām a fan of them and my affection (and general disposition) means IĀ donāt want them to fight more than they donāt fight and I really really need a better reason for them to be head-butting each other. (Iāll give the show this: They certainly built up to the moment. I still hate it. Maybe that makes me hate it more.) In general, it didn't have the same flow for me as the rest of the episode.Ā
So you arenāt explicit about the part that bothered you the most, so Iām going to assume you didnāt like the basic premise. I actually have another ask that is also wondering āwhy nowā so I will dig into that a bit later and here Iām just going to focus onĀ āwhy at all?āĀ
I think the instinct to root Gallavichās story this season in making their relationship work for the long run is a good one. I am totally in to watching them figure out how to be married and how to build a life together. I think I -- and probably others -- are a bit surprised at how behind they are on that one. Like that monogamy hadnāt been established yet. Like, guy. Walk me through why Mickey wanted to get married. (I think Mickey had SO many reasons to want to get married and I would kill to hear him talk about any of them. I would love it if they would acknowledge that this means Mickey and Ian are next-of-kin, and have legal rights about the otherās health in times of incapacitation, or just reference anything about what he wants. Heās coming from such a defensive position right now, but Iād really like them to let him move out of that.)Ā
So in terms of this what they have to work out? Balancing who isĀ āin chargeā makes some degree of sense. But itās also confusing, because they have lived together before and thereās history about things like coming up with the money for the bills. Some of it is very painful. I think a battle over Mickeyās criminal enterprise after theyāve both been in jail has a ton of meat on it... Like all of this makes SENSE to me. I just canāt say I cared for the execution. Except for V. The V part was great.Ā
I DO recommend, for those who fanfic, @gallavictoriousĀ ās new fill-in fic, which I personally found quite convincing.Ā
I fully support your desire not to watch people take dumps on TV.Ā
