CANTUKEE , THE LAND IN WHICH HIS FATE LIED . winter had been long , the impending spring FINALLY bringing them to the lands of his mother’s people . a DECISION to be made , but one he couldn’t force his mind to agree to no matter how HARD he tried . arrangements , meetings with the chiefs , all necessary to ensure the young chief of the mohicans found a SUITABLE match . but it was TOO MUCH for the young warrior , they were expecting everything so QUICKLY . which is why he left , if only for a few hours to get some air , allow himself to BREATHE without the worries of his new - found reality .

so he RAN , uninhibited by the warnings of his father & brother who urged him to take it SLOW , he was still healing . they babied him , treated him if he were glass . the worry in his father’s eyes PAINED him to see , so he LISTENED without argument , refusing to bring any FURTHER stress upon when under his watchful eye . but oh how he MISSED the way his feet moved against the earth , how the wind blew through his hair . the cerf agile was finally HOME .

but soon footsteps still , lungs WEAKER than they used to be from the lack of proper use . chest rises & falls with each HEAVY breath , trying to slow the heartbeat within that threatened to break through the lining of . eyes close , taking in his surroundings before he hears a twig SNAP , eyes flickering open immediately at the noise . was there a hunting party out this early ? always prone to CURIOSITY , he walks silently towards the source . spotting a WOMAN ------ a strange thing to find so deep within delaware lands without a guide . “ you shouldn’t be out here , miss . ”

HE FELT FOOLISH RETURNING TO SURGERY SO SOON . but the wound had seeped , calico now wet with the liquid drawn from . fingers loosen around his rifle as he sets it down on the table before pushing himself up upon . eyes shift , scanning the room for CORA but she’s nowhere to be seen . a smile forms upon his lips , assuming his brother had found her before he could . he would have to TEASE him about it later , that is , once he had found out exactly WHERE they had run off to . but for now , his focus laid with the throbbing pain in his side . body shifts , turning to the man they called phelps , a nod offered , contact made . & he supposes he’ll be over shortly . gaze lowers , fingers gliding gently over the weeping wound . a SHARP inhale taken as he hits a soft spot where the stitches bound wounded flesh together . a shaky breath , but attention is quickly shifted as he’s met with the SOFT VOICE of a girl he didn’t expect . eyes lift , drifting over her frame before hands drop & fingers curl around the wooden edge of the table . “ --------- hello , miss . ”
