maren used to believe in fate.
maybe that part of her still exists somewhere deep down, and that’s why she’s applying to be on love island.
the world’s just been kicking her ass lately. she never really recovered from her dad’s death in a car accident when she was twelve and has been angry at the world ever since. but then she met someone who made her believe in all those fairy tale tropes, who saw her for who she really was, who made her believe she could do great things.
and then he smashed her heart to pieces.
after breaking up with her high school sweetheart, maren knew she had to get out of brindleton bay. she quit her job at the café, packed up her sketches, her records, and her favorite band tees, and moved to del sol valley to chase her dream of working in music production. she wanted to help bands on their way to greatness, to be a part of making some lonely kid’s favorite album.
which is how she wound up fetching matcha lattes and sorting mail until 9 pm every night. at least now the coffee she makes is inside a record label’s office building?
DSV is not going to plan at all. it’s been 2 years and she has no friends, no boyfriend, and no professional breakthroughs. so when she saw the ad to apply to love island, she thought: just want i want to watch, a bunch of self-involved assholes flirting on a beach. and then: why not apply?
she’d deny it if you asked, but she doesn’t want to be jaded, heartbroken, and angry anymore. she wants to show the world her loyal heart and secret softness. it might take her some time to open up, but for the right person she just might. and if she doesn’t, at least it’s more exciting than another weekend of off-key hairbrush karaoke.
