I haven't given it a chance because there were articles (?) about it that mentioned that it wasn't really about the women or something?? People were excited about it and then found out it was written by men or sth. at least thats what I read on tumblr/twitter
Interesting! Tbh i know that the western genre is very problematic in general and especially concerning things like that and i understand that people in this day and age can be put off by that (i probably should be as well). i mean i’m probably the wrong person to assess the show on that account because i love the old very problematic western movies as well but i feel like Godless really isn’t that bad in this regard? i’m only on episode 3 but so far it seems like, if i look at the main characters, four of them are very independent women and four are men. i don’t wanna spoil anything but to me it feels like the women are what it’s really about. although it IS written by men and it HAS problematic scenes
maybe it’s also that i didn’t have high expectations before it aired. if you expect it to be all about this town full of women at least 50% of the show will disappoint i guess.
but like i said maybe it’s also that you just have to like the western genre. idk i’ve loved it for as long as i can think so it always puzzles me when other people don’t lol
but thanks for that! that helps me understand
