My 5 year old green chestnut mare [holy combination...] has been having these awful mood swings lately. At first we assumed it was just spunk so we tweaked her grain a little [she went from getting 1L roughage + 1/2L sweet feed + finishing touch to 1L roughage + 1/2L Hi-fat + finishing touch] She seemed to be much less jumpy on this feed. However, in the past 2 weeks her mood swings have been getting worse and worse as well as the amount of energy she has. I know its partly because the ground is too hard for them to have a good run but I've free lunged her numerous times as well. She'll have two or three good days in a two week time frame but the days she is bad she is extremely spook and bolty. I tried to lunge her yesterday and she was being so stupid she fell over from going to fast -.-
