So today's REAL post, which is the second day of breakupweek, comes from a different angle.  It's a moderately paced, electronica-heavy song that really resonated with me. First hearing this, I definitely, definitely put myself in the position of being sang TO.  The first line, "I dunno, my temper's being kinda crazy. (I need somebody!  I need someone!) I know your love is real, I just feel so suffocated--(I feel so lonely, I feel so numb)" was more of a slap in the face than anything, but I really, really like this in the context of this week's mashups.  I've been in similar situations as described by the singer, and it certainly wasn't easy.  As terrible as a breakup is, in most situations, its a terrible thing for everyone involved: something important to remember as an event like this is processed.

Keep in mind as you listen to the jam (lots of relevant/awesome lines!), with a couple of bonus British-voiced overlays that made me laugh out loud each time they came up.  Definitely possible it's part of the original song, but one of the reasons I love mashups so much is that I'm usually so far behind the pop curve anyway that nearly everything is new!  And fresh!  and I don't know who's singing it from when.

Catch-up Numero Dos is an important one--it was the start of a new week yesterday! 

This week's lineup is a group of songs that remind me of or fit romantic (or friend, I suppose) breakups really well.  Of course, music is, necessarily, more dramatic than real life--praise be!--but each song this week focuses on the theme of revenge, or regret, or, in a rare case, trying to live in the other person's shoes.  I had a difficult time deciding whether or not this was an appropriate week to do, but I'm gonna go ahead with it on the basis that people can accept I'm not aiming these songs at anyone in particular.

Today's mashup is "When I Love You Oughta Know" which straddles the line between wishing for revenge and regret-- it caught my ear on the first listen because of the edge in Morrisette's voice as the lead vocal.  The juxtaposition (BOOM 5$ word) of her lyrics with Timberlake's give his song a new meaning and really emphasizes the lyrics of hers.  If you've recently been cheated on or find the topic particularly sensitive, keep in mind that it deals pretty explicitly with it, and in my humblest of opinion, does a pretty good job of summing up a part of the feelings that come with being cheated on (which, if you're familiar with "You Oughta Know" you...would know?).

So on this morose Monday, I'll post throughout the day what should have been goig on this weekend and get all y'all caught up on my super awesome plan to share great mashups (and hopefully convert a few of you?)

Saturday was the second Saturday of the month, which means I'd like you to try and remember...2011.  After a rough start (in my opinion) that highlights really just how common specific language can be from year to year, but the chorus kicks in and really gets stuck in my head.  Weird--it's like pop music has great hooks or something.  2011's mash makes it's cut up sentences much more coherent, and hearing all the different voices cut it leads to a awesomely trippy experience.

On this glorious Friday of the first Buffalo snow of the season (that I've seen, at any rate, which is what counts, right?) I present you a cool, chill, weather-related mashup, Since I'm Walking On Sunshine.

It's exclusively the vocals of Walkin' on Sunshine, set to a much slower tempo than I've been posting this past week.  Fading gracefully in and out, it's a perfect background song that'll make you happy whenever your mind fancies pulling out the hook from the flow. 

HAPPY RETRO DOUBLE HEADER THURSDAY!!!!

The over-the-top excitement is because while I'm posting lots of awesome mashups, today I get to post two of my favorites, each of which takes "Nothin' but a Heartache" (worth a listen to the original!) and mashes it in a way that leaves the incredible background beat and trumpets in place.  

The first is mashed with Rihanna's "Umbrella" and speeds it up to where I'm personally comfortable with it.  When I've been in love, it's been a great song and this upbeat version of it is something I can run/work/dance to and feel great.  Besides which, the music video matches up wonderfully and I'm always a sucker for synchronized dancing.

The second is mashed up mainly with Yazoo's "Don't Go," although Fatboy Slim makes an appearance on the track and is the main focus of the middle buildup.  This music video is full of wonderfully vintage music videos matching pretty well with the foreground singers in each part of the song.

Happy hump day!  I think it's time to get back to basics...with RUDIMENTAL ABC.

Starting with some great pipe organ, the song morphs into ABC as if Michael Jackson was the only member of the Jackson 5, which let's be real, he might as well have been for what careers happened afterward. The horn interlude in the middle is pretty great, and the entire song just...fits.

I know y'all have been waiting with bated breath for my next installment. 

FEAR NOT.  I've brought you another retro mashup that has a ridiculous number of hits--it's even got an accompanying video!  What an overachiever, amirite? 

Its starting tagline of "It's got to be funky...*garble garble*...music of the 70s!"  is probably the best description.  Working in most of the songs samples in the beginning of the mashup to give you a flavor of what's about to hit you, at a minute thirty, with Upside Down, things really start to get interesting.
