#monthofmagic by @veronicavarlow day 22: Candle Magick YAAAAAAAAAS. Candle magick is one of my favorite practices EVER. Unlike some other kinds of workings where the ingredients are hard to get by or too expensive if I do get to find then here, candles are pretty much everywhere, cheap/accessible, and easy to use. I try to buy them by the bulk in as many colors as I can. All colors have their uses, and in some cases more than one (black candles sometimes get a bad rap but they're also VERY efficient when it comes to cleansing and banishing, for example); and from one of the people who have taught me at times I learned to "invert" the candle when I feel it necessary (usually to banish something or to drive back any negativity coming at me). #monthofmagic by @veronicavarlow day 15: Magic is Everywhere Paraphrasing one of my favorite Madonna songs; "Magic's where you find it". Everything has magic in it: from the tree that you pass by and feel the many sprites dancing around it, to the old house in the middle of the city whpse story you may never fully know but just perceive now and then involving an old woman surrounded by a prosperous family. As I've mentioned a lot, my city's fairly magickal. My whole country is; "Venezuela is witch country" is something I say sometimes because everyone's a little more predisposed, a little more open; but everyone can do magic, everywhere, because magic IS everywhere and permeates everything. Yesterday I had a slight debate with someone on tumblr because they commented if you didn't use all the ingredients in a spell you wouldn't be able to do it, and shouldn't even practice witchcraft if they "weren't going to commit". I found it too restrictive: magic is free, magic is within you, and witchcraft in particular is wild and untamed; She will work as She pleases. A witch works with what she has; if she doesn't have something then she'll make do, and it will work. #witchychallenge2018 by @mydaemonisabadger day 11: Moon AND #monthofmagic by @veronicavarlow day 11: Mirror Magick (Something in a mirror) Why did I make the two in a single post? Because the Moon is the biggest mirror we know, both because She reflecta the light of the Sun and makes it Her own, and because we all project upon Her our romanticism: all poets and artists make odes to Her and She will never be theirs. I've always been drawn to the Moon. She looks at us all when we are at our most broken and contemplate; She sees lovers reuniting and mothers crying, She hears hushed secrets and whispers back sacred wisdom as we rest. She dances with the Ocean, both in the Materium and the Ocean of our collective unconscious. To me, She's Lilith; with the Earth as Adam, and the Sun as Eve. My own personal identifications, I have my reasons; I also call Her Yemaya sometimes, and Hecate of course. Here are a few pics I took last year of a Blood Moon that I felt particularly powerful. #monthofmagic challenge by @veronicavarlow day 9: Words are Wands (fav quote/mantra). I couldn't pick just one, again. So here are my top two quotes, both culled from The Wicked + The Divine (my favorite comic book series, because indeed, I am a comic book geek); and a mantra I just cling to a lot. "Do you want to be smart or do you want to know things?" Sometimes we take our knowledge for granted. We believe that we know everything worth knowing, and disregard everything else as foolishness; even in the face of scientific progress or purely subjective interest. I know a lot of people like that: the ones in the occult community who think their way is the only way, science fanboys who don't seem to remember science is an ever-progressive, always evolving compendium of knowledge, and not a rigid set of parameters. Both extremes end up being so alike in the end. "Here's your Goddess of Destiny with a truth download: FUCK DESTINY" that phrase marked me, because I've ALWAYS felt like saying that. I know there are forces that guide and move us, forces that dictate aspects of our lives; but WE are the ones with the power. I am drawn to destiny and fate, even to the concept of the Norns in general; yet I'm a firm believer in Free Will. I may be a soothsayer, I may divine things through oracles and even just from mere intuition; yet I just see it as the most likely possible outcome from past and present influences; you can always change the future if you set yourself to it. "Yo soy un ser triunfador". "I am a successful being".
