Okay so I have a monster Synth AU because like with the parasite AU, I like making Synth into Creatures that are unlovable and then making Trollex love him So Much.

So Techno Trolls once had their own monsters to deal with, but the power of a Perfect Beat Drop drove them to near extinction.
NEAR extinction.
The remaining ones had to get craftier, stealthier. They created a sort of "lure", much like an angler fish has, that's detached from their body. This lure looks just like a Techno Troll, blending in perfectly and letting them enter the reef with no problem and find their food.
Techno Trolls have been disappearing for years since the monsters were last seen, but at a much slower rate that's gotten even slower over the years. It was really bad around the time Synth was born, but now that he's an adult, it's slowed down to one a year or so.
Truth is, Synth's slowly come to love the Techno Trolls over the years. How could he not love the people that took him in when his parents died? But a monster has to eat.
He eats just enough to stay alive. His true body, one that rests outside the reef, is withered. It's bones stick out, skin clinging to them so closely his body looks shrink wrapped around his skeleton. Barnacles stick to him from years of never moving from his cave. He's barely alive, but you wouldn't be able to tell from the way his lure radiates energy.
The longer he knows the love of the Techno Trolls, the more his guilt grows. Part of him feels resentment that he's starving himself while they live happily, but it's a part of him that's so buried he barely notices it.
His guilt consumes him as Trollex showers him with love and attention, and on a random day, he tells King Trollex he has something urgent to show him outside of the reef. Trollex is relaxed at first, cracking jokes, but Synth's nerves are clearly fried and he's visibly anxious. Trollex treats it seriously from that point on.
Synth takes him to a desolate cave, and when Trollex sees the monster, his first instinct is to protect Synth from it, jumping between Synth and the monster. Synth tells him he doesn't need to worry about him, after all, he can't eat himself. There's a glow, and Trollex can finally see the string connecting Synth to the monster. He backs away and Synth confesses to being responsible to the past 20+ years of disappearances.
He explains that he tries to eat as little as possible, which is why disappearances have gone down from the days his parents were alive, but he still needs to eat. He's tried other meat, but nothing works like Trolls do.
Trollex asks how Synth has gotten away with it for this long, and Synth explains that he picks out people who don't really have anybody else, so it takes longer for them to be noticed as missing. He explains how he lures them out of the reef specifically around the time his parents died, because his guilt over eating someone looks like grief for his parents if he does.
Trollex puts his hands on Synth's shoulders and says "Good. Keep doing that."
Synth is confused, and asks Trollex why he's not mad. Those are HIS subjects his eating. Trollex just tells Synth "You're my priority. They all come second to you."
Synth is torn. Part of him is relieved that Trollex accepts him for what he is, the other part is upset that Trollex would allow him to do such an awful thing.
Trollex looks over Synth's actual body for the first time, noting his sickly appearance. Synth explains that he only eats enough to survive, and Trollex tries to insist he eat more.
Trollex eventually comes up with the idea of feeding Synth corpses of the recently deceased (something Synth couldn't manage to do on his own), which isn't as nutritious as an alive Troll, but for the first time since childhood, Synth actually gets full. Trollex also lets Synth drink his blood to make up those nutrients.
Trollex comes to Synth's cave and scrapes the barnacles off him and cleans the algae off him and he actually gets Synth to swim out of the cave and chase him around a bit (Synth tires easily though). Synth hadn't realized how lonely he felt in his cave until he has someone coming to visit him every day.
Because my main thought is Rock leaves Techno and Synth's lure just snaps off and Troll Synth just drops like a sack of Rocks and the Rock Trolls freak out because they think they just killed someone.
Theyāre relocating everybody and the lure randomly ragdolls and rolls doen the stairs and a bunch of Rock Trolls freeze with the Pikachu Meme face bcz wtf just happened???
If Barb was there during the scene, her heart probably dropped or something because this wasnāt part of the fucking plan.
Now sheās gotta break the news to Trollex that one of his trolls (bcz lets be real, sheād 100% be a good host if she wasnāt kidnapping all the trolls for World Tour), that one of his trolls ā specifically the one heās shown most care for and protected the most ā just dropped dead, and Trollex is like āaight.ā with no reaction whatsoever.. like thatās normal for him (bcz Synth probably told him what happens when the lure gets too far from the og body).
So āLex kindāve looks like the insane one in the room now, and Barb is probably rethinking a lot of stuff.
I imagine while they're swimming away from the reef, Synth is in his cage and he kind of wants to mess with the Rock Trolls so he's like "Yo I don't think it's a good idea to take us out of the water... I don't feel so good."
The Rock Trolls are like "Barb checked, Techno Trolls can breath air just fine, you're fine, calm down."
Synth's like "I really don't feel good."
One of the Rock Trolls is like "We're not letting you out of the cage."
Synth then drops face first to the floor. The Rock Trolls laugh and are like "Yeah good try bud, we can tell you're faking." Except Synth stops glowing.
They panic, open the cage and yep Synth is a corpse now.
One of them goes to Barb right after she finishes singing Crazy Train and is like "Barb we have a problem. One of the Techno Trolls died."
Barb freezes and is like "If you're messing with me, I'm going to kill you for real."
They show Barb Synth, and she's freaking out because she didn't want to hurt anyone. She's wracking her brain trying to figure out what went wrong. One of them tells Barb Synth's last words and Barb orders all the angler buses back to the ocean.
I imagine there's a very sad scene of Barb cradling Synth's body and apologizing and saying she didn't mean for this to happen.
I actually don't know if Synth would have mentioned what would happen if his lure got too far away from his body to Trollex simply because I don't think the idea ever came up to Synth. He has no reason to get THAT far away from his body.
So when Barb tells Trollex Synth is dead, Trollex still is panicking because he assumes that something is wrong with Synth.
Barb lets everyone go because by this point she's rethinking her plan, and Trollex carries Synth's lure back to his cave, where Synth promptly sits up in his arms and scares the shit out of Trollex.
Trollex makes Barb and her Rock Trolls fix the reef and Synth shows up at one point to see how the progress is going and Barb screams like "You were dead! I saw your corpse!"
Synth's just like "Oh, yeah. I got better."
Barb's VERY relieved that she didn't actually kill anybody with her shitty plan.
In the Monster Synth AU, when Synth confessed what he was doing to Trollex, he was fully prepared for Trollex to be the hero who slayed the monster terrorizing their town. I think he was even hoping for it. He wanted it all to be over.
He wasn't prepared for Trollex to start helping him.
Weird monster AU where the monster characters have the same mindset and morality as the demons in Frieren

Creek: It's because doing so causes you guys to hesitate. What a magical word. "Mom." It does such a wonderful thing to Trolls. Making them easier to eat.

Giving all the Synth AUās rn different hairstyles just to be able to properly distinguish them lol because Iāve gotten confused in the past (especially with MP!Synth & Monster!Synth when I was trying to draw them designs on the back of my test paper once)
Corpse Bride has those protective bridal braids with like a half-up half-down braid at the back, his torn and withered veil is definitely pined to those half-up half-down braids, the flower crown is just to keep it from moving a lot when heād put the veil over his face.
Shrek Brynth!Synth definitely has Fionaās hair but make it thicker and like really long (not as long as Rapunzelās though). Barb definitely taught him how to braid it properly through some sort of understandable speech if it is full on massive dragon Barb route.
MP!Synth has unbraided wavy/curly hair with like a bunch of flowers in it.
Monster!Synth has the normal canon Synth hair but it also has flowers in it (I like when the two monsters have flowers in their hair tbh, makes them feel more loved and cuter in my opinion)
EPIC BRYNTH!Synth would have those messy buns that ancient Greek/Roman women used to have, maybe a head wrap too or just a shawl over his head since Iām pretty sure during the times heās out and about in the castle, he needed to maneuver his way through a bunch of suitors and covering up gave him time to get away quickly without being spotted.
Giant Leader!Synth just has short wavy hair since he finds it more fun to probably mess with Trollexās hair a lot.
Pop!Synth would probably either have those like volume hair from like the 90ās to the 2000ās or heād just have like wavy/curly hair with a bandana on like your stereotypical early 2000ās movies. Heād probably be the most expressive with his hair since I donāt think weāve seen a Pop troll with curly or wavy hair in canon other than Branch getting a perm when he was still Bitty B. So the other Pop trolls would probably have a lot of fun with his hair and support him with the different styles he gets.
Idk if I missed anymore Synth AUās, but I think all of these fit for what Iāve seen so far for most of the AUās. I like curly/wavy hair Synth, I really canāt pick between the two of them so Iāmma switcharoo a lot.
If I could draw, I'd make a reference sheet of his various hairstyles.
I like the idea that both Memory Parasite!Synth and Monster!Synth look real uncanny to others in their disguises (especially when you put him side to side with a few other Techno Trolls). Like MP!Synthās only struggle is keeping up a good disguise, whilst Monster!Synth just lacks the energy to perfect his lure.
Techno Trolls have gills on them to breath underwater, but Synth lacks them and is only saved by the grace of them thinking itās a birth defect or a rare condition where he breaths though his skin instead like an amphibian.
Techno Troll eyes glow under the light like mammals when you flash them, but Synthās lure being well, fake, doesnāt glow and he looks really uncanny in certain photos.
Techno trolls usually have darker skin to with like some bioluminescent light from their bodies, but Synth doesnāt really have those traits and sticks out like a sore thumb when trying to hide (since hiding isnāt really his purpose in Monster Synth AU heās pretty much fine, though Itās a problem for MP!Synth since he does need to survive)
Techno trolls usually have sharp teeth like sharps, but MP!Synth has leech teeth and is only mistaken to have Hyperdontia Itās a real condition where people have multiple rows of teeth in their mouth, please do not search it up if you donāt like body horror so no one really bats an eye, the children just think itās pretty cool so he oets them see once in a while.
I just like the idea of Synth sticking out like a sore thumb but he isnāt really caught no matter what he does or what happens because everyone else just doesnāt really care or just think thatās just Synth defying logic all over again.
I like the idea of Synth appearing "wrong" in some way, although Memory Parasite Synth wouldn't have visible defects. Memory Parasite Synth would probably just fall into uncanny valley range. Like something about him looks or feels off but you just can't place what. Maybe he looks a little too perfect or artificial.
Monster Synth though, I do like the idea his lure has visible defects.
