so i’ve been messing around with the 1995 Westwood Windows 95 version of Monopoly a lot recently. what we have here is the start and progress so far of a game set up with the “easiest”, “medium” and “hardest” default AI configurations for the game - Dana, Ruprecht, and Zanthia respectively - and 3 copies of the config file I created which values all properties equally (the default AIs have biases towards certain properties) and are set to be more aggressive and willing to take temporary losses in trades, as well as being told they can try to predict much farther ahead in the game than the default AI settings do (several hundred possible rounds instead of several dozen). they’ve also all been granted $413,413 as their starting cash instead of the default $1500 because it guarantees the game can play itself longer.
what we are seeing now, on what is the 3rd day of it continuously playing and god knows how many hundreds or even thousands of turns, 2 of the 3 custom AIs have pushed out the others altogether, and Pretty is getting slowly worn down by Geno’s slightly better selection of properties and improvement placements. and also that the default ais did die off in order of their normal “difficulty” from easiest to hardest.
there’s also considerably more money in the players’ hands then there was amongst all players at the start of the game -which was a bit under 2.5 million to start with and is now over 5 million. no doubt we can place that on having the free parking rule enabled in part, but also the sheer additive effects of the chance and community chest cards that issue new money to the game.
